NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference released its 2019-20 women's basketball preseason poll on Tuesday and picked the University of Dayton to finish second overall in the league.
Dayton received 177 points and a first-place vote just behind reigning A-10 Champions and preseason favorites VCU. The Rams earned 189 points and 11 first-place votes after returning 2019 A-10 Coach of the Year Beth O'Boyle and all five starters.
UD was picked to finish ahead of last season's tournament champions and co-regular season champions Fordham and fourth-place Saint Louis. Both of those teams received a first-place vote.
The Flyers are led by First Team All-Conference performer and last year's leading scorer
Jayla Scaife as well as five other players who started games in 2018-19.
Dayton finished last season with a 17-14 record overall and 10-6 A-10 mark, earning another trip to the A-10 Championship. The Flyers earned a berth in the WNIT, making it 11 straight postseason trips.
The Flyers and UD Arena will be the host site of the 2020 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship from March 6-8.
