FAIRFAX, Va. – The University of Dayton men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking double overtime defeat in the 107
th minute at George Mason Saturday.
The Flyers (5-6, 1-1 A-10) lost its first conference game while the Patriots (3-7-1, 2-0 A-10) remain unbeaten in A-10 play.
KEY STATS
- Dayton opened the scoring in the 46th minute as senior Daniel Dos Santos drove home a cross from freshman Andy Sanchez to put the Flyers up 1-0.
- Sanchez recorded his second assist of the game as he set up junior Jonas Fjeldberg in the 50th minute to double the Flyers' lead.
- George Mason scored its first goal of the contest in the 64th minute to cut the margin to one.
- The host Patriots tied the score up in the 78th minute on a goal by Tunde Akinlosotu.
- George Mason scored the game-winning goal in the 107th minute off a corner kick.
- UD was out-shot in the game 17-12 while Mason put 10 shots on goal.
- Goalkeeper Federico Barrios had four saves before leaving the game due to a red card with backup keeper Jack Steele recording three saves as well.
