Women's Soccer Taking on UMass On The Road Over Fall Break

The Flyers Take On The Minutewomen Sunday in Amherst, Mass.

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (5-6-2, 3-1-1 A-10) is coming off back-to-back Atlantic 10 Conference wins; a 1-0 road win at St. Bonaventure and a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Davidson on the Flyers' senior day. 
• The Flyers continue A-10 action with just one match this weekend, playing at Massachusetts (6-4-2, 3-2-0 A-10) Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. ET. 
• The match will be streamed on ESPN+ 

THE SERIES
• Dayton leads the all-time series 19-5-0 vs. Massachusetts. 
• The Minutewomen won the last meeting, 2-0 at Dayton's Baujan Field on Oct. 21, 2018. Prior to that, UD had won the last nine consecutive matches. 
• The Flyers are 8-2-0 all-time vs. UMass when playing in Amherst. 
• In the 2017 Flyer 3-1 road win over the Minutewomen to close out the regular season, Micayla Livingston scored the first goal on an assist from Jordan Pauley, currently seniors at UD. The win earned the Flyers the final berth in the 2017 A-10 Championship field. 
• In 2016, UD notched a 3-1 home win over UMass to close out the regular season, which also helped clinch a spot in the A-10 Championship. 

FLYER FACTS
•  The Flyers went 2-5-1 overall in the non-conference portion of their 2019 schedule. 
•  Dayton is 4-2-1 at Baujan Field this season, and 1-4-1 on the road, picking up its first road win of the season last week with a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure. 
•  The Flyers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 15 to close out non-conference play. 
•  UD opened Atlantic 10 play with a 2-0 shutout over George Mason at Baujan on Sept. 22. The Flyers followed that with a 0-0 tie vs. Rhode Island at home. The three-match shutout streak was ended by a 4-1 loss at Saint Louis. 
•  Dayton bounced back with the shutout victory over SBU and a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Davidson to improve to 3-1-1 in A-10 play, currently third place in the standings. 
•  Four of UD's six losses have been by one goal (Illinois 3-2, DePaul 1-0, Bowling Green 2-1 in double overtime - with just six seconds left in the match, and Indiana State 1-0). 
• Dayton's leading scorers are three freshmen: Alexis Goins with six goals and two assists (14 points), Laney Huber with three goals and four assists (10 points), and Landy Mertz with two goals and two assists (six points).
• Huber leads the Flyers in assists with four. Senior Micayla Livingston and freshman Yaiza Navarro Leon lead UD in  assists with three each. 
• Eight different Flyers have scored goals this season: Goins (6), Huber (3), senior Jordan Pauley and Mertz (2), and freshmen Jessica Sheldon and Audrey Steiert and seniors Micayla Livingston and Caroline Mink (1). 
• Five different Flyers have scored game-winning goals: Sheldon (vs. Davidson), Goins (vs. St. Bonaventure), Livingston (vs. George Mason), Huber (vs. Eastern Michigan) and Mink (vs. Miami).
• Redshirt sophomore Carly Becker has started all 13 matches in goal for Dayton. She has 34 saves and a 1.52 GAA with five shutouts.

SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS
• Massachusetts is 6-4-2 overall and 3-2 in A-10 play, currently in a four-way tie for fifth place. 
• The Minutewomen are 2-1-1 in home matches played at Rudd Field this season. 
• UMass closed out the non-conference portion of its season with a 3-3 draw vs. No. 21 Tennessee. 
• UMass is coming off a 2-1 win over Rhode Island and prior to that a 3-2 OT loss at GW.
• Eight different Minutewomen have scored goals led by freshman Melissa Kössler with 10 goals and six assists, which leads the A-10 and NCAA as well. 
• Sophomore Lauren Bonavita is second in scoring with six goals and one assist. 
• Peyton Ryan has started all 12 matches in goal and has 48 saves and a 1.83 GAA.

• The Flyers are 230-74-24 all-time in games played on Baujan Field. 

FRESHMEN FLYER DUO EARN A-10 HONORS
Freshman Alexis Goins was named the A-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week, while fellow freshman Jessica Sheldon shared A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for matches played Sept. 30-Oct.6.

Goins led the Flyers with five points in Dayton's 2-0-0 week in Atlantic 10 play. Goins scored the lone goal in a 1-0 road win at St. Bonaventure Thursday night. The rookie from Fairfield, Ohio scored a goal to tie the match vs. Davidson and then had the assist on the game-winning goal vs. the Wildcats Sunday, a match in which the Flyers came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2. She leads the Flyers with six goals this season. 
 
Sheldon scored the game-winning goal and had an assist in Dayton's 3-2 come-from-behind win over Davidson Sunday at Baujan Field. The forward from Medina, Ohio, had an assist on the game-tying goal vs. the Wildcats. She then scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. It was her first-ever collegiate goal and her first-ever collegiate assist.

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: 10 times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016). 
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five. 
• Dayton has appeared in 22 A-10 tournaments, earning a berth every year the Flyers have been a member of the conference. 

CINCINNATI CONNECTIONS
•  Nine Flyers are from the Cincinnati area, including three from Fairfield: senior Alex Powell, sophomore Lexy Kidd, and freshman Alexis Goins. The other Cincinnati-area products include: seniors Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, and Madeleine Morrissey, juniors Olivia Brown and Megan Rack, and freshman Laney Huber.

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN 
• Dayton's freshmen have a history of making an impact. 
• Current freshmen Alexis Goins, Landy Mertz, Yaiza Navarro Leon, and Audrey Steiert have started every match for the Flyers. Laney Huber (nine starts), Jessica Sheldon (three starts), and Marlee Taylor have played in all 13 matches. Mackenzie Lutz has played in 12 matches with 11 starts. Goins (6 goals), Huber (3 goals & team-high 4 assists), Mertz (2 goals), Sheldon and Steiert have each scored this season. Navarro Leon has three assists. 
Izzy Greene was named to the 2018 A-10 All-Rookie Team. 
Micayla Livingston and Caroline Mink were both named to the 2016 A-10 All-Rookie Team.
