Ella Raimondi has been named an Academic All-America second team member by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced Wednesday, Dec. 17.
Raimondi, who holds a 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering, was a key figure along the defensive line for a Flyer team that set the record for most shutouts in a season with 15. In addition, the defender from Erie, Pa. scored three goals on the campaign, including two game-winners.
Raimondi becomes the first Flyer women's soccer player to earn Academic All-American distinction since Sarah Senoyuit in 2013, and is the seventh UD women's soccer player to be tabbed with the honor.
Academic All-American is a title reserved for college student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their chosen sport and in the classroom. Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District® recognition by communications directors and must have a minimum 3.50 GPA and meet high athletic standards.
