NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its end-of-the-year awards and recognized three University of Dayton athletes with major awards.
Junior midfielder
Jonas Fjeldberg earned Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year honors while sophomore midfielder
Kingsford Adjei was named A-10 Midfielder of the Year and freshman forward
Toluwalase Oladeinbo was named A-10 Rookie of the Year.
Fjeldberg and Adjei were named First Team All-Conference along with senior goalkeeper
Federico Barrios. Oladeinbo joined sophomore defender
Elias Harryson on the All-Conference Second Team.
Oladeinbo also earned All-Rookie Team honors with teammates
Andy Sanchez and
Xavier Zengue, both freshmen as well.
"It's always great to see our student-athletes receive recognition for their individual performances," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "Each of them played a vital role in our success. Winning the three major conference awards says a lot about the entire team since it is always a combined effort in creating the platforms needed for these student-athletes to achieve success.
Dayton finished the season with an 11-7 record overall and 6-2 mark in the A-10. The Flyers advanced to the semifinals of the conference championship and will face VCU on Friday night. UD is currently riding a seven-game winning streak.
Fjeldberg led the A-10 in scoring with 11 goals and second in assists with nine for 31 total points. Adeji added 10 goals and five assists despite missing time due to injury. Oladeinbo contributed eight goals and two assists in his debut season. Barrios had six shutouts and 69 saves in 18 starts. Harryson guided a strong Dayton defense that totaled those six shutouts and helped the Flyers gain momentum during their winning streak. Sanchez and Zengue also had strong debut seasons, both recording five assists and playing major roles for UD.
