DAYTON – University of Dayton men's tennis coach
Ryan Meyer announced that Connor Bruce has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Flyer men's tennis team. Bruce, of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a four-star rated recruit and has been ranked as high as No. 61, nationally. He was the 2019 PIAA State doubles champion.
Bruce, a highest honors student at Peters Township, will graduate high school in just 3.5 years. He will enroll at UD and compete starting during the spring 2020 semester for the Flyers. He will major in operations and supply management.
Â
"Connor is going to be a great addition to the program," said Meyer. "He has a big game and wants to be the next great Flyer. His work ethic and enthusiasm are second to none. We're really looking forward to him joining the team in January."
Â
Bruce was the No. 1 singles player all three years on the varsity squad. He was undefeated in regular season singles matches and was the WPIAL singles champion in 2017, the only freshman in school history to accomplish this feat. He was the varsity captain for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Â
"Signing to playing tennis at UD is an amazing feeling. The community and hospitality from everyone there is what it's all about," said Bruce. "I am very grateful for the opportunity Coach Meyer has given me to be a Flyer. It is going to be an exciting next four years and I cannot wait to get to work with the team."
Â
Bruce also played golf. His mother Marcy played tennis at the College of Charleston and his brother Hunter currently plays golf at Penn State.
Â
Bruce joins Ronit Hiryur of West Chester, Ohio who signed with the Flyers last week.
