KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The University of Dayton's
Josh Cunningham and
Obi Toppin were both recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for their performances in 2018-19. Both were named Second Team All-District 4.
Cunningham just completed his Flyer career with 964 points in three seasons, 52nd all-time at UD. This season, he averaged 13.3 points and 6.2 rebounds a game, while shooting (.639, 156-244) from the floor. His career field goal percentage of .649 (367-574) is second-best all-time at Dayton. Cunningham was a three-time captain and two-time All-Atlantic 10 Third Team.
Toppin was the A-10 Rookie of the Year and the first freshman to be named First Team All-Atlantic 10 in 20 years. He led Dayton in scoring (14.4 ppg) and is fifth in the nation in FG% (.666, 201-302). He was second in the county in dunks with a UD-record 83 dunks.
The All-District Teams were selected and voted upon by member coaches of the NABC. This is the second time in the last four years Dayton has had two players named NABC All-District.
Dayton was 21-12 this season and finished third in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers return four starters and will add five veteran redshirts in 2019-20.
