DAYTON -- The University of Dayton women's tennis program announced its end of season team awards this week and
Natalie Allen (MVP),
Mary Brascia (Best Mental Attitude) and
Kristina Benjamin (Most Improved) all earned recognition.Â
Natalie Allen was a versatile asset in the lineup for the Flyers all season long, playing at least one match this season in spots No. 2-5. Allen compiled five wins this spring, which was tied with
Kelly Pleiman for a team-best mark. She also teamed with
Mattea Kilstofte in doubles play to form the most dangerous tandem in the Flyer lineup. Allen and Kilstofte won a team-high five doubles matches, including three coming from the top spot in the lineup.
Mary Brascia may only have been a freshman this past season, but she immediately contributed to the Dayton program with her leadership skills and positive attitude. Brascia also contributed in the lineup, appearing in 20 dual matches as a true freshman, including a 2-3 mark at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.
Kristina Benjamin didn't see an abundance of time in the top six spots for singles play in her first three years at Dayton, but her constant hard work and effort resulted in her earning a spot as a regular in the lineup for the Flyers with 15 appearances in dual matches this spring. Benjamin was also an effective doubles partner, teaming with Brascia,
Anna Delaney and
Mattea Kilstofte for a combined four wins at the No. 3 spot in the doubles lineup. Aside from her improvement on the court, Benjamin also provided senior leadership for the younger players on the team and was recognized by the entire athletic department in April as the "Unsung Hero" at the annual RUDY Awards.
The Flyers went 4-21 this season, but will return several key contributors. Allen,
Emily Zargham,
Kelly Pleiman and
Zoe Woods all won multiple matches this spring in the top three spots of the lineup.
