DAYTON -- The University of Dayton has announced that walk-through metal detectors will now be used at all entrances at UD Arena as part of the University of Dayton's ongoing commitment to safety and security.
The metal detectors will be implemented with the first event at the newly-transformed Arena on Friday, Nov. 1 when the Flyer women's basketball team plays Ashland in an exhibition game. The men's basketball team plays its exhibition game the next day against Cedarville.
"The introduction of metal detectors adds another layer of protection for guests, participating teams and staff," said
Scott DeBolt, UD's senior associate athletics director - executive director of UD Arena. "Fans have likely experienced this added safety precaution when attending events at other facilities. This technology aligns our fan safety procedures with industry best practices."
"The safety of our fans and teams is a top priority," said
Neil Sullivan, UD's vice-president and director of athletics. "This added layer of security has been added after consulting with industry experts, and in conjunction with campus and local agencies.
"We're asking our fans for their patience and their partnership as we implement the metal detectors. We will make adjustments as needed to deliver the highest-quality experience for entering the Arena with the additional safety measures."
Guests entering with bags should be prepared to have them checked before passing through the metal detectors. Belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects will not need to be removed.
To help expedite entry, guests are asked to limit items brought into the University of Dayton Arena on game day. All items and spectators are subject to search. No storage facilities will be available for checking prohibited items.
Doors will open for the women's team's exhibition game on Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. ET, with game time scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. For the men's exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 2, doors will open at 3 p.m. ET, with a tip time of 5 p.m. ET.
The regular season doors-open times for both teams will be announced at a later date. Click
