UNCG Spartan Classic Up Next For Softball

Dayton To Battle Appalachian State, Oakland And Host UNCG Feb. 28-March 1

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is hitting the road for North Carolina as it will take part in the 2020 UNCG Spartan Classic Feb. 28-March 1. Dayton is scheduled to play four games across three days against Appalachian State, Oakland and host UNCG. All games will be played at UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro.

About Dayton
Dayton (2-8) had last weekend off after a 0-5 outing at the Houston Classic Feb. 14-16. UD played back-to-back games against then-21st-ranked Oregon to close out the weekend in Houston. The Flyers' offense is led by senior outfielder Mallory Kimmell who enters the weekend with a .500 average on a team-best 12 hits and junior catcher Abby Ehrenborg has knocked out a team-high four home runs. In the circle, freshman Sarah Bailitz has tallied 21 strikeouts to lead UD.

Series Stuff
Appalachian State: Tied 2-2. Dayton and Appalachian State last met in 2012 at the USC Upstate Spartan Classic. The Mountaineers opened the weekend with 4-2 win over the Flyers March 2 followed by a 7-3 win by UD on March 3.
UNCG: UNCG leads, 3-0. The pair last squared off on March 1, 2013 at Winthrop's Combat Invitational. The Spartans downed the Flyers, 6-4, in Dayton's first game of the tournament.
Oakland: Tied 2-2-1. Dayton played Oakland twice at the 2015 Miami (Ohio) Invitational, with each team claiming a win. The Flyers got past the Grizzlies, 5-2, in game one but Oakland narrowly edged Dayton in game two, 6-5.

RPI Rankings
In the NCAA's final Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for the 2019 season, Dayton came in at 191 according to NCAA.com. Opponents: Appalachian State - 115, UNCG - 73, Oakland - 258.

Junior Abby Ehrenborg set a new Dayton single-season RBI mark in 2019 with 49 and she currently ranks seventh all-time with 89 career RBI. For the season, Ehrenborg has knocked in six runs on 10 hits.

Three Strikes You're Out
Senior right-handed pitcher Jessica Weaver broke into the Dayton top 10 for career strikeouts at the end of last season. For her career, Weaver has struck out 184 batters, ranking her 10th all-time in program history.
