DAYTON – University of Dayton men's cross country head coach
Jason Ordway as announced the addition of four student-athletes for the upcoming fall campaign.
Bryce Conley, Sam Duncan, Adam Jones, and Lincoln Williams have all committed to joining UD for the 2020 season.
"I am very pleased to announce our incoming men's cross country team members for the 2020 class," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "We have a ton of talent coming in this year to supplement our strong group of experienced returning student-athletes. It's our hope that the older guys are able to pass along a lot of the knowledge they've learned during their time at the University of Dayton to catch the incoming freshmen up to speed and get them in a position to contribute early to the team's overall success."
Bryce Conley – Tippecanoe High School, Tipp City, Ohio
Conley is a four-year varsity letterwinner coming from Tippecanoe High School in nearby Tipp City. He is a MVL champion, a three-time county champion, and earned All-Ohio honors last season. Conley has been named First Team All-GWOC and Second Team All-GWOC as well. He led his team to four county titles and earned three Miami country individual titles. Conley was a two time district champion in track as well.
"Bryce Conley from Tippecanoe High School is a competitor," Ordway continued. "He's one of those types of runners that is up to a challenge and wants to improve and compete against others in races and workouts. I think he'll learn and grow a lot during his first year and be a big talent for us over the next several seasons. He really seemed to enjoy what he saw at Dayton, and I felt very comfortable discussing where I thought he fit into our team. Bryce should be an instant impact student-athlete for us this fall."
Sam Duncan – Lebanon High School, Lebanon, Ohio
Duncan comes to Dayton after a standout career at Lebanon High School in Ohio, earning All-State honors this last fall. A four-year varsity letterwinner, Duncan holds the school record in the 5K with a time of 15:40.5. He is a three-time All-Region, four time All-District, and four-time All-League honoree. A three-time team captain, he led his team to a pair of conference and district titles. Duncan has had just as much success in the classroom, being named AP Scholar with Distinction, Academic All-Ohio, and National Honor Society.
"Sam Duncan from Lebanon High School will be a great addition to our squad and has a lot of individual and team success on his resume," said Ordway. "He's a natural leader and comes to us with a level of maturity that is rare among incoming freshmen. During the recruitment process we really seemed to click and express similar views on what we would like to see from one another, and how we each fit into the puzzle of the Dayton experience. Sam is ready to contribute and be a leader for us as we bring the next generation of student-athletes on campus. I'm excited to see where we can go together."
Adam Jones – Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, Broadview Heights, Ohio
Jones joins the Flyers after excelling at Brecksville High School in Broadview Heights, Ohio. There he earned Suburban League MVP and Ohio Media District Champion honors last year. Prior to that, Jones had earned Suburban League Second Team and Honorable Mention accolades. He led his team to a district title last season as well.
"Adam Jones is an incredibly smart and talented individual that has a huge upside," Ordway continued. "He's coming to our program with a lot of room to develop and is what I would consider to be under trained, in a very good way. Once he gets into our system, adapts to our training style, and is able to train and be pushed by our current squad, I think he will really take off and become the type of runner that can really make an impact on this team."
Lincoln Williams – St. Xavier High School, Louisville, Ky.
Williams is a native of Louisville, Ky. and brings a PR of 15:42 in the 5K to Dayton along with two All-State honors and a pair of All-Area accolades as well. He was named Academic All-State twice and won the regional championship this past fall. His team finished as state runners up in both 2018 and 2019 also. Williams was just as successful in the classroom, earning the Achievement for Academic Excellence all four years of high school.
"Lincoln Williams brings with him an air of confidence and comfort to our incoming class," stated Ordway. "He seemed to immediately fit in during the recruitment process and just felt like a Dayton student-athlete from the get-go. He comes from a great high school program and has a self-assured way about him that will prove valuable to have around as we approach big races this fall. Our coach/athlete philosophies are very much in line, and I'm confident we'll be able to use that to really push him to some big things in the future."
