NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton redshirt-freshman Alayna Yates has been named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday, Oct. 4. This is the fourth consecutive week a Flyers has been honored by the league office.

Saint Louis senior Maya Taylor was selected as A-10 Player of the Week while SLU freshman Kate Aupperle was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Week. The awards are for matches played Sept. 27 - Oct 3.

Yates helped lead Dayton to back-to-back straight-set wins over Duquesne, averaging 2.17 blocks per set while swinging at .371. A middle blocker from Cedar Falls, Iowa, she tallied nine kills and five blocks in Friday's 3-0 win in Pittsburgh and followed that with seven kills and eight blocks at home on Sunday. Yates tallied 2.67 kills per set and contributed 3.75 points per set for the Flyers.

Dayton is in the middle of a seven-match homestand and is set to welcome VCU to Frericks Center on Oct. 7. First serve between the Flyers and Rams is set for 6 p.m. Thursday and admission is free. Masks will be required for everyone, regardless of vaccination status, including all employees, visitors & vendors while inside Frericks Center as well as inside the gym. Masks must completely cover the nose and mouth except when actively eating or drinking.
