#UDWSOC Takes On Bonnies Twice This Week

The Flyers Host St. Bonaventure This Thursday And Sunday At Baujan Field

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (5-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 A-10) hosts St. Bonaventure in two matches this week at Baujan Field: Thursday, April 1 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, April 4 at 2:05 p.m. ET.Ā 
• The Thursday match is scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ with Alex Mikos on the call.Ā

Based on campus and local COVID-19 protocols and capacity restrictions, Dayton home athletic events will not be open to the general public.
Limited seating is available to guests of Dayton student-athletes (names must be on a pass list for admission). Currently, visiting team fans are not permitted in/at the facility.
Additionally, attendance at Dayton home athletic events will be socially distanced and fans are required to wear masks.


THE SERIES
• The Flyers lead the all-time series 19-1-2 over St. Bonaventure.
• The two squads have already met once this season, with UD picking up its first A-10 win of 2021 with a 3-0 win over the Bonnies in Olean, N.Y. on March 21. Itala Gemelli and Marlee Taylor scored for the Flyers, and SBU had an own goal.Ā 
• Prior to this season, the last meeting vs. SBU, UD won 1-0 on the road on Oct. 3, 2019. Alexis Goins scored the game-winner in the 17th minute with assists from Laney Huber and Audrey Steiert.Ā 
• Dayton's lone loss to the Bonnies came in 2010. The Flyers suffered a 2-1 road loss on Oct. 24, 2010.
• The two draws also came on the road; 1-1 in 2003 and 0-0 in 2007. UD has never lost to St. Bonaventure at Baujan Field.Ā 
• The Flyers are on a seven-match winning streak vs. the Bonnies.Ā 

FLYER FACTS
• This season the Flyers are averaging 1.56 goals per game in the nine matches this season. Eleven of the 14 goals have come from UD freshmen this season: Itala Gemelli leads Dayton with six goals, including three game-winning goals. Madison Wilson and Diana Benigno have each scored two goals, and Mia Perri has one goal. Senior Kara Camarco scored the game-winning goal in UD's 1-0 victory over Marshall on Feb. 28 and sophomore Marlee Taylor scored her first collegiate goal in the win over St. Bonaventure.Ā 
• Sophomore Jessica Sheldon leads the Flyers with five assists. Fellow sophomores Laney Huber, Yaiza Navarro Leon, and Audrey Steiert each have two assists. Freshmen Benigno, Perri, and Wilson have one assist each, and sophomore Marlee Taylor and senior Kara Camarco also have one assist apiece to their credit.
• Freshman Itala Gemelli also leads Dayton in shots (25)., shots on goal (12), and points (12).
• UD returns eight starters from a squad that went 7-9-3 overall and 5-3-2 in conference play in 2019. Dayton was 1-7-2 in matches not played at Baujan Field in 2019, and 6-2-1 at home.
• The six Flyers who have started every match this season are freshmen (Itala Gemelli, Katie Houck, Madison Wilson) and sophomores (Mackenzie Lutz, Jessica Sheldon, Audrey Steiert). Sophomore Yaiza Navarro Leon has played in and started eight matches.
• Sophomore defender Mackenzie Lutz leads all Flyers with 780 minutes played.Ā 
• Sophomore Madelyn Dewey earned her first collegiate start vs. Louisville (March 6) and has started every match since. In the other four matches she came off the bench to start the second half. Dewey is 5-2-1 on the season with 30 saves. The Flyers have four shutouts.Ā 
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his fourth season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
• St. Bonaventure is 0-4-0. The Bonnies did not play any non-conference matches this season.Ā 
• SBU suffered a 1-0 double overtime loss to No. 20 Saint Louis to kick off A-10 play. The Billikens scored the golden goal with just five seconds left to play in the match.Ā 
• The Bonnies also played Duquesne tough, falling 1-0 to the Dukes on March 18.
• SBU fell 3-0 to UD on March 21, before dropping a 4-0 decision to Saint Louis on March 28.Ā 
• St. Bonaventure has failed to find the back of the net this season.Ā 
• Kenzie Tarmino, Amber Achladis, and Christine Napoli each have three shots to lead the Bonnies in that category.Ā 
• Freshman Mackenzie Nolan has 27 saves in goal for the Bonnies and a 2.13 GAA.

UP NEXT
• The Flyers close out Atlantic 10 play at Saint Louis (Thursday, April 8 at 8 p.m. & Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m.) at Hermann Stadium.

A-10 OPENING DRAW
• The Flyers opened the A-10 campaign with a double overtime 1-1 draw at Duquesne. Freshman Madison Wilson scored in the match for Dayton.Ā 
• Prior to the 1-1 double overtime tie at Duquesne Sunday, March 14, Dayton's last A-10 regular season match was Oct. 27, 2019, a 3-2 loss at La Salle. Ā When the Flyers took on the Dukes it marked 504 days since UD's last conference match.Ā 

GOOD TO BE BACK AT BAUJAN
• Dayton's 1-0 win over Marshall on Feb. 28 marked the first NCAA Division I women's soccer match at Baujan Field in 493 days. Prior to the Flyers taking on The Herd, the last women's soccer match at Baujan Field was a UD 3-0 victory over Fordham on Oct. 24, 2019.
• Senior Kara Camarco scored the game-winner over Marshall in the 74th minute.

2X A-10 ROOKIE HONORS FOR ITALA
• Ā Freshman Itala Gemelli was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Feb. 22. Gemelli scored her first collegiate goal, a game-winner in the 86th minute against Northern Kentucky in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory for UD. The rookie from Rochester, Mich., also scored the Flyers' lone goal in a 4-1 loss to undefeated Butler.
• Ā She also won the award for matches played March 15-21 when she scored three goals on the week. She scored both goals in Dayton's 3-2 double overtime loss to No. 22 Saint Louis, including the first goal just 57 seconds into the match, a rocket to the upper, far post 90. She also scored the equalizer in the 69th minute to send the match into OT. Gemelli scored the game-winning goal in UD's 3-0 shutout road win over St. Bonaventure to help the Flyers pick up their first conference win.

FLYERS PICKED 4TH IN A-10 POLL
• The Dayton women's soccer team was selected Ā to finish fourth in the 2020-21 Atlantic 10 standings in a vote by the league's 14 head coaches. The Flyers were 5-3-2 in the conference in 2019 and finished fifth in the league.
• A four-team 2020-21 Atlantic 10 Championship will be played on the campus of the highest seed, April 15-17, with the winner advancing to the NCAA tournament.
• The Atlantic 10 has divided the 14 teams that participate in women's soccer into three geographical pods.
• The top team from each pod, and the next best team (regardless of pod) will play in the four-team Championship.

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUNDĀ 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: 10 times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016).Ā 
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five.Ā 
• Dayton has appeared in 23 A-10 tournaments, earning a berth every year the Flyers have been a member of the conference.

BELIEVIN' IN BAUJANĀ 
• The Flyers are 234-76-24 all-time in games played on their home field, Baujan Field.Ā 

OHIO CONNECTIONS
• Ā 11 Flyers on the women's soccer team are from Ohio.
• Ā There are five from the Cincinnati area, including two from Fairfield: junior Lexy Kidd, and sophomore Alexis Goins. The other Cincinnati-area products include: senior Olivia Brown, sophomore Laney Huber and freshman Elle Lovdal.Ā 
• Ā There are three from the Columbus, Ohio area: junior Gillian Losey, Tennessee transfer Alicia Donley (won't be playing this spring due to NCAA rules in which she competed already this season for the Vols in the fall), freshman Natale Hegg.
