NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman Julia Bays was tabbed as this week's Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week after the conference announced its weekly awards on Thursday.
 
It marks the second time this season a member of the women's tennis team has earned a conference honor with Erica Wojcikiewicz taking Performer of the Week earlier this season.
 
Bays went 2-0 overall, winning the first two matches of her collegiate career against Bellarmine. The freshman paired with fellow freshman Sarah DeMarco to take the No. 3 doubles match against Channing Varnum and Maja Kozerski.
 
In singles play against the Knights, Bays followed that up with her first collegiate singles victory as well, taking the No. 6 singles flight again against Varnum to finish the weekend undefeated.
