Men’s Soccer Defeated By No. 4 West Virginia

The Flyers Fell On The Road 3-0

MORGANTOWN, W. Va.– The University of Dayton men's soccer team went on the road to face No. 4 West Virginia on a rainy night and left with a 3-0 loss to the nationally ranked opponent.

The Flyers (3-3-2) suffered their third loss of the year while the Mountaineers (5-0-2) continue their unbeaten start to the season.

GAME RECAP
  • West Virginia peppered the Dayton goal early and often and was able to get the opening goal in the 20th minute on a scrum in front of the goal.
  • The Mountaineers had nine shots, five on target, in the first half.
  • In the 77th minute, WVU doubled its lead its second goal of the game.
  • The third and final goal for the Mountaineers was scored as an own goal on the Flyers.
  • Dayton finished the game with just three shots to WVU's 18 attempts. UD failed to put a shot on target.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"I thought the team showed great energy again tonight," said head coach Dennis Currier. "We just had too many unforced errors that a top five team in the country will capitalize on, which they did. Offensively, we fell short on accuracy in the final third as well. It was important for our team to see this level of play."

UP NEXT
  • The Flyers open up Atlantic 10 play Saturday at 7 p.m. against VCU on the road.
