Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader Against Thomas More

Dayton won every point against the Saints

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team won two matches against Thomas More on Sunday, extending the team's home winning streak to 15 matches.
 
Dayton improves to 3-3 on the season, while Thomas More falls to 1-3. There were 11 different Flyers in the lineup between the two matches, and UD took every point from the Saints on Sunday.
 
The Flyers opened the first match by taking the doubles point. Senior Steven Karl and freshman Eric Perkowski took No. 3 doubles 6-1, with junior Georgi Mavrodiev and sophomore Ronit Hiryur following on Court Two with a 6-3 win of their own to clinch the point.
 
Hiryur again scored for Dayton, taking the first set in No. 2 singles from Sergio San Pablo before eventually winning by retirement in the second. Junior Connor Bruce won shortly after, taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles against Anderson McDowell.
 
Junior Oliver Dunne clinched the match for the Flyers on Court Five against Juan Pablo Villagrana Francisco, winning 6-1, 6-0.
 
Mavrodiev finished next for Dayton, taking his match on Court Six 6-4, 6-0 against Payson Scott.
 
Perkowski and Karl closed out the match, with both winning within minutes in No. 5 and No. 3 singles, with Perkowski winning 6-2, 6-4 and Karl taking his match 6-2, 6-3.
 
Dayton opened the second match by again taking the doubles point. Perkowski and Bruce paired up to win in No. 2 doubles 6-1, while Mavrodiev and sophomore Erik Eliasson won on Court Three 6-1.
 
The Flyers again brought the momentum into singles play, with freshman Davis Phillips winning for the first time in 2022 in No. 6 singles over Brandon Kwok 6-0, 6-1.
 
Eliasson followed on Court Four with a straight-set win over Payson Scott 6-0, 6-0. Mavrodiev won his fourth match of the day between singles and doubles, knocking off Enqriue Aceves 6-1, 6-0 and Bruce finished the match out with a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles against Fernando Martin Paz.
 
The Flyers will remain home against IUPUI next Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center.
