Cedarville, Findlay Next Up for Women's Track and Field

Nearest Indoor Meet of the Season Set for Friday, Throws in Findlay for Elite Event

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's track and field team will compete in it's most local indoor meet on Friday, when they travel to nearby Cedarville University to take part in the Cedarville Collegiate Open. The meet will get underway at 3:30 p.m., despite previously being advertised to start at 2:30 p.m. Dayton's throwers will be in Findlay for the Alumni and Elite Throwing event at the University of Findlay Friday and Saturday.

The Flyers have had a very noteworthy first two meets to open the indoor season this year, setting personal records and UD records in several events. Lainey Studebaker is slated to compete in the 1 mile race on Friday, following setting a new UD record in the event last Friday at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University with a 4:45.79. The grad student was named the Atlantic 10's Women's Track Performer of the Week for her performance, as well as the CollegeAdvantage Student Athlete of the Week among all of Dayton's student athletes. Kaira Granger cracked the Dayton all-time top five in the 60m race at Indiana, placing third overall in the event with a 7.56. Chante Clinkscale now holds two all-time records at Dayton following the Gladstein Invite, a meet where the freshman beat her own UD record in the 60m race, winning the event outright with a 7.42. The freshman also holds the all-time Dayton record in the 200m race, posting a 24.54 in Bloomington, Ind. to win that event outright.

In the field and throwing events, the Flyers have had several new PR's set in the first two events, including a new personal best mark for Carolyn Bakx in the pole vault during day one of the Gladstein Invite last weekend. The junior Indianapolis native was one of only three finalists in the event to clear a height of 3.60m, finishing tied for second. On day two of last weekend's event, Taylor Flight and Grace Homan finished sixth and seventh respectively in the shot put, with Homan setting a new season best with a 12.99m toss.  In the long jump, Jayla Pruitt (4.90) and Kelly McCloughan (4.89) finished 10th and 11th among a talented field.
