Women’s Basketball Loses To Florida In Final Seconds

The Flyers Battled The Gators To The Final Buzzer

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's basketball team fell to the University of Florida by a score of 69-65 in their weekend battle at UD Arena.

The Flyers (0-8) are still searching for their first win as the Gators (8-1) push their winning streak to six games in a row.

KEY MOMENT
Florida hit their last 3 free throws to push their lead to two possessions and ended up winning 69-65.

GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 13, Florida 21
● Florida won the tip-off and started the game off with a three-point field goal.
● The Flyers started off hot with nine quick points, but the Gators also got it going scoring 12 quick points of their own.
● Florida's defense proved themselves as the Flyers were forced into four straight turnovers leading to a scoring drought of 3:39.
● Senior Sydney Freeman capped off the quarter with a drive down the lane and a nice layup.

2nd Quarter: Dayton 32, Florida 39
● Junior Anyssa Jones got Dayton going with a steal and layup.
● Florida went on a 6-0 run and the Flyers hit another scoring drought of 2:34 before a pair of free throws from senior Mariah Perez.
● A three pointer from junior Taisiya Kozlova and redshirt junior Destiny Bohanon sparked a Flyer 6-0 run of their own.
● After being hot from the field, Dayton goes 1-of-8 on their field goal attempts as the Gators go on a 6-0 run of their own.
● Dayton ended the half on a 3:13 field goal drought, but hit five of their last six free throw attempts.
● Dayton out-rebounded Florida 23-15 at halftime, while the Gators shot 53.6 percent from the field and Dayton shot 32.3 percent from the field.
● Dayton also made 9-of-10 free throws.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 51, Florida 50
● Bohanon continues to shoot well from three as she starts the second half with her second made three pointer of the night.
● Perez continued to stay red hot as she dominated the paint with another layup.
● Freeman took it to the hoop and scored a layup to give the Flyers their first lead of the night at 43-42.
● Dayton went on an 11-1 run to start the half with 5:00 remaining.
● Perez and Freeman lead the Flyers in points with 20 and 10 respectively.
● Dayton shot 37 percent from the field and the Gators shot 50 percent.
● Dayton out-rebounded the Gators 32-21

4th Quarter: Dayton 65, Florida 69
● Freshman Nayo Lear gets on the box score with a drive to the hoop and a nice re-adjusting layup.
● Dayton's defense stayed strong as Florida went 1-of-9 on field goals after the 8:56 mark in the quarter.
● Bohanon hit another corner three to give her double digits on the night.
● Bohanon added another three to her tally and hits her fourth attempt. She was 4-for-5 from three.
