DAYTON – University of Dayton head football coach
Rick Chamberlin has announced that Braden Layer is the newest member of the University of Dayton coaching staff. Â Layer brings a proven record of guiding highly successful offensive production at each of his multi-season coaching stops as he has climbed the coaching ranks.
Layer, 31, began his coaching career at Austin Peay in 2013, where he is was a GA coaching the Governor defensive backs. Â He first moved to the offensive side of the ball at Denison, his alma mater, for two seasons as the Big Red passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Â Â
Layer spent the next two seasons coaching quarterbacks and wide receivers, while also serving as co-offensive coordinator, at Sewanee: The University of the South. Â He moved to Allegheny as offensive coordinator in 2018 and 2019, before coaching at Bowdoin in the same capacity last season.
Layer was a four-year letterwinner at Denison, beginning his career as a quarterback before spending his final two seasons at receiver. Â A two-time All-NCAC honoree at receiver and 2012 Capital One Academic All-America selection, he graduated from Denison with honors with degrees in both economics and communications. Â He was a member of the 2012 National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society. Â He also earned a M.S. in health and human performance while at Austin Peay.
