Track and Field Finishes Second at Flag City Open

Flyers Excel In Final Meet Before Conference Championships

FINDLAY, OHIO – The University of Dayton women's track and field team wrapped up their regular season schedule on Friday, competing in the Flag City Open at the University of Findlay. The Flyers had yet another quality showing in the meet, and appear poised to excel at next weekend's Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Flyers placed second overall in Friday's Flag City Open, finishing just behind the host Findlay Oilers, who are currently ranked 19th in the country in NCAA Division II.

Emily Sreenan led things off for the Flyers, winning the 1 mile run for UD with a time of 5:01.48. Zoe Chappelle (5:16.88) and Jenna Eggleston (5:20.04) also finished fifth and sixth respectively in the 1 mile. The Flyers also got a victory in the 800m run, as sophomore Abby Carter posted a 2:19.05 to come out on top. Palmer Madsen clocked a 2:34.91 in the event to finish sixth overall. Justine Smith kept the momentum going for UD, winning the 3000m run with a final time of 10:45.97. Fellow freshman Maria Steinke was right on her heels, finishing second overall with a PR time of 10:46.78. To close things out on the running events, the Flyers took yet another victory in the 4x400 relay, as the team of Kaira Granger, Lauren Santiago, Chante Clinkscale, and Julia DiLoreto posted a winning time of 4:07.11.
 
The Flyers also had a successful night in the field events, as Kelly McCloughan won the triple jump overall with a finals distance of 10.94m. Jayla Pruitt was a close second in the event, with a 10.58m mark in the finals. In the women's shot put, junior Grace Homan placed second overall in the event, posting a season PR of 13.68m. Senior Taylor Flight placed third in the event, with her final mark of 13.55m. Flight was the highlight of the women's weight throw event for the Flyers, placing third overall with a mark of 18.68m. Hannah Lindenman placed sixth in the event with a 16.49m toss.
 
The Flyers will now prepare for next weekend's Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships, as they will travel to Fairfax, VA for the event hosted by the George Mason Patriots. The two-day championships are set to take place next Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26-27, at George Mason Field House. Each day of events is set to kick off at 9:00 a.m.
