Flyers Will Play At Belmont Thursday And Lipscomb On Friday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will continue the 2022 season with two matches in Nashville. The Flyers will play at Belmont on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Belmont Tennis Complex and at Lipscomb on Friday at 3 p.m. at Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

The Flyers enter the contest 10-5 through the team's first 15 matches and are on a four-match winning streak. Dayton's tenth win came last Friday in a 4-2 win over Northern Kentucky. The Flyers dropped the doubles point but took four of five decisions in singles play.

Junior Connor Bruce won his 14th singles match of the season against the Norse, tying sophomore Ronit Hiryur for the team lead. Bruce has 37 career singles wins, the second most on the Flyers and the 21st most in program history.

Senior Steven Karl's 62 wins are the most by any current Flyer and the tenth-highest total in program history. Karl is two wins behind Jordan Benjamin and Brad Nykiel for eighth all-time. He and fellow senior Will Harper are one win from breaking the school record for most wins by a single class. The pair have been part of 65 wins in their time at UD and are tied with Benjamin and Lorenzo Rollhauser for the record.

Belmont enters the match at 6-3 this season after beating Bellarmine last week. Arthur Toledo leads the Bruins with five wins at the top singles flight this season. Tomas Luis has 13 wins in singles play this season which is the most on Belmont, while Alfred Wallin sits at 12-1 in 2022.

Lipscomb will be the second opponent for the Flyers this week. The Bisons are 3-7 this season after falling to ETSU last week. Maksim Bogdanovich has been the main force at the top singles flight for Lipscomb, while Pedro Uribe has been playing at No. 2 for Lipscomb.

This will be the eighth meeting between Dayton and Belmont, with the Flyers owning a 1-6 record all-time against the Bruins. Dayton has played Lipscomb four times before Friday's match, with Dayton winning one of four against the Bisons.
