Men's Tennis To Head To Northern Kentucky Friday Night

The Flyers Have Won Three Straight Matches Entering The Contest

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will take on Northern Kentucky on Friday at 7 p.m. at Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills, Ky.

The Flyers are coming off of a 3-0 weekend and are currently 9-5 this season. Dayton shut out all three opponents, defeating Eastern Illinois and Saint Francis 7-0 and Findlay 4-0. The performance helped earn junior Connor Bruce his third Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week of the season. Bruce went 5-1 between singles and doubles play, including three wins at the top singles flight.

Bruce is one of three Flyers with at least 10 singles wins, with sophomore Ronit Hiryur leading the way with 14. The third is freshman Eric Perkowski, who ranks third on the team with 12 wins this season and owns a 9-2 record in dual singles matches.

Hiryur and doubles partner senior Steven Karl have won three-straight doubles matches, while Bruce leads the team with eight wins in doubles play this season.

Northern Kentucky enters the season 4-2 and have won their last two matches. The Norse beat Saint Francis last Friday night 4-0 at Five Seasons in just their second home match of the year.

Brandon Ponomarew leads the team with three wins this season, posting a 3-1 record at No. 4 singles. Emilien Bunel has played at the team's top singles flight in each of their matches so far, posting a 2-1 record.

Jorge Rodriguez and Tom Berry have teamed up for a 3-0 record to this point in doubles play between the top two doubles flights for Northern Kentucky.

This will be the 16th meeting between these two schools since 2006, with Dayton winning the last four matches. That includes a 7-0 victory last March that saw the Flyers take all but one set during singles play with wins from Bruce, Karl, senior Will Harper, juniors Matt DeMarco and Georgi Mavrodiev, and sophomore Erik Eliasson.
