ATHENS, OHIO – The University of Dayton women's track and field team returned to action on Saturday, as they competed in the Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by the Ohio University Bobcats. 10 teams competed in the meet in Athens, and the Flyers placed second overall amongst the 10 teams on the women's side.
 
The Flyers finished at or near the top in many of the field events, and also had a very successful day on the track. Luisa Himmler set a new PR in the javelin toss, winning the event outright with a throw of 39.90m. Grace Homan also set a new personal best mark in the shot put, finishing first overall with a 14.11m toss. A pair of runner-up finishes rounded out the field events for UD, with Christierra Cici Williams finishing second in the long jump, and Kelly McCloughan finished second in the triple jump.
 
On the distance side, Abby Carter led things off by setting a new PR in the 3000m, winning the event with a time of 9:47.19. Emily Sreenan finished second overall behind Carter, posting a time of 10:05.52. The Flyers also found success in the 5000m race, with sophomore Zoe Chappelle winning the event outright with a 17:47.46. Hannah Moulton and Maria Steinke both ran quality races in the 5000m, finishing in third and fourth respectively.
 
On the sprint and relay side, the Flyers got another event win from the 4x100m relay team of Rayana Burns, Kaira Granger, Lauren Santiago, and Chante Clinkscale, who posted a winning time of 48.11 seconds. Santiago also had a solid finish in the 400m race as an individual, finishing in sixth place with a time of 58.01 seconds. She also was the fastest Flyer finisher in the 200m, finishing eighth with a 26.02 second time.
 
The Flyers will round out the regular season next weekend, as they will travel to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational, which begins on Friday, Apr. 22.
