DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team fell 11-1 in the series finale against Rhode Island. Junior
Mark Manfredi struck out seven in his six innings on the mound, pitching his second-consecutive quality start in the loss.

Dayton falls to 10-13, 1-2 in conference play. The Rams come away from the weekend with a series win, moving them to 5-21 on the season with a 2-1 record in the Atlantic 10.

Marcos Pujols picked up his fifth home run of the season in the contest, one of just two hits for the Flyers on Sunday. Junior
Omar Daniels doubled in the third inning picking up his third double of 2022.Â
ON THE MOUND
Manfredi started the game for the Flyers, going the first six innings of the game, pitching into the seventh. The junior struck out seven allowing just one earned run.

Andrew Zapka came on for Manfredi in the seventh, going one inning with a strikeout while allowing two earned runs. Senior
Bryce Hellgeth entered in the eighth for Zapka, failing to record an out while allowing one earned run.

Sophomore
Eli Majick finished up the eighth inning for Hellgeth, striking out one and limiting the damage without allowing another run.

Thomas Braybrooks took the mound for the Flyers in the ninth, giving up one earned run on one hit. Sophomores
Nick Wissman and
Nick Rispoli finished the day on the mound for the Flyers, each pitching one third of an inning, with Wissman allowing one unearned run.

Top 2: (1-0 Rams)
After Rhode Island got two base runners off singles, a throwing error on a stolen base attempt scored one, giving the Rams an early 1-0 lead.

Top 7: (3-0 Rams)
Rhode Island led off the inning with a hit by pitch, prompting Zapka's entrance to the game and two batters later a double down the right field line brought home the second run of the game. Another hit by pitch put two on an a single through the left side made it 3-0.

Bottom 7: (3-1 Rams)
Pujols put one over the right field wall, his second of the series, to cut the lead to two runs in the seventh.

Top 8: (7-1 Rams)
After back-to-back walks to start the inning, a Rhode Island batter reached on an error, and scoring their fourth run of the game. Another error loaded the bases, and a hit by pitch scored another run and kept the bases loaded. After Majick entered the game, an RBI single scored another two runs to cap off put the Flyers down 7-1.

Top 9: (11-1 Rams)
Braybrooks retired the first batter of the inning, but a base hit, walk, and error scored the first run of the inning. A sacrifice fly brought home the ninth run of the game and a home run to right field scored the final two runs of the game.

The Flyers will head to Northern Kentucky to take on the Norse on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Ky.
