Box Score HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The University of Dayton baseball team took down Northern Kentucky 16-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Ky. Junior
Jose Martinez hit two home runs and drove in four runs in the win.

Dayton improves to 11-13 with the win, while NKU falls to 8-18 in 2022. UD's 16 runs are the most they've scored this season, and the team improves to 2-0 when they've scored double-digit runs.

The Flyers scored 12 runs in the first two innings to jump out to a lead that they would hold for the entirety of the contest. Senior
Marcos Pujols joined Martinez with a home run of his own as part of a 3-for-4 day. The first baseman finished a triple shy of the cycle. Senior
Jay Curtis also picked up three hits and drove in two runs in the contest.

ON THE MOUND
Graduate student
Kenny Serwa pitched the first three innings for the Flyers, allowing just two hits in his scoreless start with three strikeouts. Serwa retired all but two batters he faced in the outing. Sophomore
Parker Bard entered for Serwa to start the fourth, going the next four innings for Dayton.

Bard allowed two earned runs on four hits, striking out two in his time on the mound. Senior
Jake Silverstein entered for Bard, pitching a scoreless eighth inning with a pair of strikeouts. Junior
Thomas Braybrooks finished the game for the Flyers on the mound, pitching the ninth. Braybrooks struck out the side to end the contest.

Ben Jones led off the game with a walk before Pujols hit his sixth home run of the season to put Dayton up by two early. Senior

Keagan Calero tripled for the first time this season to make it 3-0 Flyers.

Martinez hit his first home run of the inning down the left field line to put Dayton up by four runs. Junior
Omar Daniels and Jones drew back-to-back walks and Pujols singled to right to load the bases. Graduate student
Henry Strmecki put the Flyers up five with a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch brought in the third run of the inning. Curtis made it 8-0 with a base hit through the left side and Calero walked to put two on. Junior
Alex Neff brought Curtis home with a base hit and two batters later Martinez capped the inning with his second home run in the frame, bringing in three runs and making it 12-0.

Bottom 4: (12-1 Flyers)
Bard retired the first batter of the inning before an error by Strmecki put a runner on third and a sacrifice fly to right field brought in Northern Kentucky's first run of the game.

Top 5: (13-1 Flyers)
Jones led off the inning with a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a groundout by Strmecki. Curtis walked and Jones advanced to third and scored on wild pitches to extend the lead back to 12 runs.

Bottom 5: (13-3 Flyers)
NKU opened the inning with a base hit through the right side. Bard retired the next two Norse hitters before a walk put two on and two outs. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position and a double down the left field line cut the Dayton lead to 10.

Top 6: (14-3 Flyers)
Neff opened the inning with a walk and proceeded to steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Daniels would bring him in to score on an RBI groundout to make it 14-3.

Top 8: (16-3 Flyers)
Neff led off the eighth with a hit by pitch. Daniels doubled to center to put two on and two outs for Jones, who doubled himself down the left field line, scoring two and extending the lead to 13 runs, finalizing the score.

The Flyers will return on Wednesday for a home game against Eastern Kentucky. That game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.
