Softball At Fordham For Weather-Shortened Final Regular Season Series Of 2022

Dayton and Rams will Play Two on Sunday Due to Inclement Weather

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team traveled to New York City today ahead of its Atlantic 10 series at Fordham this weekend. The Flyers and Rams are now scheduled to play two games at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx May 8. The pair will play a doubleheader Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The originally scheduled three-game series was altered due to ongoing inclement weather conditions in the area.

SCOUTING FORDHAM
Fordham (26-18, 14-6 A-10) enters the weekend enjoying a six-game winning streak after picking up sweeps of A-10 foes George Mason and St. Bonaventure. The Rams are currently in second place in league standings with three games left to play in the regular season. Fordham's offense is led by Rachel Hubertus (.290) with 42 hits, 16 home runs (1st A-10) and 39 RBI (2nd A-10) while Brianna Pinto (.291) is a perfect 25-for-25 (1st A-10) in stolen bases and is second on the team with 41 hits. In the circle for the Rams, Mackenzie McGrath (9-5) has worked 94.0 innings over 22 appearances with a 2.23 ERA (2nd A-10) and 71 strikeouts while Devon Miller (9-10, 2.83) has collected a team-best 99 strikeouts (6th A-10) in 108.2 innings of work (6th A-10).

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (18-21, 11-9 A-10) is coming off its fifth A-10 series win of the season after closing out the home portion of its 2022 schedule with two wins over visiting Massachusetts last weekend, including senior Kelsey Gumm's second complete-game, no-hitter of the season on Saturday. On offense, freshman Emma Schutter paces the team with a league-leading .411 average with 53 hits (2nd A-10) and 20 stolen bases (2nd A-10). Four other Flyers are hitting above .300 including senior Alyssa Cacini (.308) who leads the team with 25 RBI (10th A-10), 22 runs scored and six home runs (5th A-10). The Flyers' pitching corps is paced by Gumm (9-7) with a 2.05 ERA (1st A-10), .185 opposing batting average (1st A-10) and 103 strikeouts (5th A-10) over 105.2 innings pitched (8th A-10) with seven complete games and two saves (1st A-10).

LAST TIME OUT
In its A-10 series finale against Massachusetts this past Sunday, Dayton closed out a 2-1 series win with a 6-3 victory at home. Schutter recorded her first career four-hit game after a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI while the Dayton pitching corps combined for nine strikeouts on the day compared to zero strikeouts by Massachusetts' pitchers.
