Women's Soccer Opens A-10 Play This Week

Flyers Open Conference Play After Best Non-Conference Record In 10 Years

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team will open Atlantic 10 Conference play this week, as they open the slate against the Davidson Wildcats on the road Thursday before returning home to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Sunday.

The Flyers finished non-conference play with a 6-1-1 overall record, the most non-conference wins for the program since the 2012 season. Dayton enters A-10 play riding a three-match win streak, their second such streak of the 2022 season. Defense has been the story for Dayton thus far, as five of their six victories this season have come by way of shutout. Itala Gemelli leads the way on offense for the Flyers, as her six goals this year lead the Atlantic 10, and rank her third in the NCAA. Her four match-winning goals also rank her first in the NCAA.

SCOUTING DAVIDSON
After a season-opening tie against USC-Upstate, the Davidson Wildcats have won seven straight matches entering conference play Thursday, a number that ranks second in the NCAA. Thursday's match will likely be a defensive match-up, as the Wildcats are also very defensively sound, currently in the midst of a six-match shutout streak. Head coach Adam Denton's offense is lead by sophomore forward Aleia Gisolfi-McCready, who has tallied three goals and an assist in the Wildcats' eight non-conference matches.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
While technically still unbeaten on the year, the Bonnies enter the week with the most ties in the NCAA, boasting a 2-0-5 overall non-conference record. The Bonnies will host the Fordham Rams on Thursday prior to heading to Dayton over the weekend for Sunday's contest at Baujan. The Bonnies are also lead by a seven-point scorer on offense, as Ami Komori leads the team with three goals and an assist. Head coach Steve Brdarski's team averages just 1.29 goals scored per match, while on average they surrender around a goal per match at 0.86.

Both Thursday and Sunday's match are available to stream on ESPN+, and admission to Sunday's conference home opener is free to the general public.
