Box Score DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team finished up the James O'Connell Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Graul Tennis Complex on Dayton's campus. The Flyers played two singles matches and a doubles match to round out competition for the team's fall opener.
The team opened the day with a singles match against Ball State. Senior
Matt DeMarco picked up his first win of the season 6-2, 7-6 against Danilo Kovacevic. Junior
Erik Eliasson also found success early, winning his first match of the fall campaign against Vince Orlando in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.
Dayton followed that up with their final doubles match of the event against Northern Kentucky, taking all three matches from the Norse. DeMarco paired with senior
Connor Bruce to defeat Brandon Ponomarew and Trevor Ball decisively 6-0. Senior

Ronit Hiryur followed that with a win on Court Two 7-5 over Emilio Bravo and Bartosz Losiak. Freshman
Charlie Cowan picked up his first career doubles win with senior
Oliver Dunne 7-5 over Vincent Knott and Tom Berry, completing doubles play.
Rounding out Saturday for the Flyers was a set of singles matches against Xavier, with UD taking four of seven matches from the Musketeers. Bruce defeated Ryan Cahill in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. DeMarco also finished a 3-0 day with a three set win over Kyle Totorica. DeMarco dropped the first set 6-4 before winning 6-1 and 10-2 to win his third match of the day. Senior
Georgi Mavrodiev picked up a straight-set win over Charlie Temming 7-6, 6-2, and Eliasson also won his second match of the afternoon with a straight-set win over Marco Pennelli 7-5, 6-0.
The Flyers will head to Tulsa next weekend for the ITA All American Championships.
