Softball In D.C. For A-10 Series At George Washington

Flyers and Colonials to Play Three at GW Softball Field

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Dayton softball team is in the nation's capital for a three-game Atlantic 10 series at George Washington this weekend. The Flyers and Colonials will play two games on Saturday followed by one on Sunday at GW Softball Field. The start time for Saturday's doubleheader has been moved to 1 p.m. due to inclement weather in the area.

All three games will be available to follow via LIVE STATS and Sunday's game will be live streamed via ESPN+.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (15-12, 2-1 A-10) stepped put of Atlantic 10 Conference action Wednesday for a single game at UD Softball Stadium against Ohio State, falling to the Buckeyes in five innings. After having its first weekend of league play postponed due to weather, Dayton picked up a 2-1 series win over Massachusetts last weekend. The Flyers' offense is led by sophomore Maddie Kapsimalis (.480 - 10th NCAA) with an .820 slugging percentage, eight doubles and seven walks and sophomore Emma Schutter (.455 - 21st NCAA) with 40 hits, 18 runs scored and 20 stolen bases (16th NCAA). Freshman Izzy Kemp (6-4) holds the team's low ERA (1.03 - 13th NCAA) and has collected 102 strikeouts on the season.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington (11-13, 2-4 A-10) also took a step out of conference play this week with a single game at home on Wednesday against crosstown rival Georgetown, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Hoyas. Last weekend, GW was in St. Louis for a three-game A-10 set at SLU with the Billikens claiming the series, 2-1. The Colonials are led offensively by Arizona Ritchie (.354) with 28 hits, 21 runs scored and 10 stolen bases and Ashley Corpuz (.313) with 11 doubles and four home runs. In the circle, Rose Cano (10-7) has the team's low ERA of 2.86 and leads the team with 63 strikeouts.

Dayton and George Washington last squared off in the 2022 Atlantic 10 Championship. The Colonials secured the 8-0 win in six innings May 13, 2022.

In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for games through March 29, Dayton came in at 144 according to NCAA.com. George Washington was ranked 239.

As a team, Dayton was 63-for-74 in stolen bases as a team in 2022 - the 63 stolen bases ranked second in the Atlantic 10. After 27 games in 2023, the Flyers are 53-and-63 in stolen bases led by sophomore Emma Schutter (20 - 2nd A-10, 16th NCAA) senior Emily Daniel (17 - 3rd A-10). The 53 team stolen bases on the season ranks second in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton head coach Cara Clark-LaPlaca tallied her 233rd career win at UD on April 15, 2017 at La Salle, surpassing former Flyer head coach Jodi Eickemeyer as Dayton's all-time winningest coach. She now has 360 wins at UD. Notable - coach Clark-LaPlaca currently has 491 overall career wins as a head coach.

THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Over 74.2 innings pitched in 19 appearances for the Flyers, freshman right-handed pitcher Izzy Kemp currently ranks first in the Atlantic 10 with 102 total strikeouts and second in the league with 27 batters struck out looking. Her average of 9.6 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 29th nationally.
