Rare Mid-Week A-10 Doubleheader For Softball Wednesday At St. Bonaventure

Dayton Leading A-10 Standings with 7-2 League-Game Record

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is hitting the road for a mid-week Atlantic 10 doubleheader at St. Bonaventure Wednesday. The Flyers and Bonnies will square off at SBU's Joyce Field at 2 p.m. on April 12 for two league contests. Both games will be available to follow via live stats and to stream via ESPN+.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (21-13, 7-2 A-10) claimed its third A-10 series win after two out of three games from Saint Louis at home this past weekend. The first-place Flyers' offense is paced by sophomore Emma Schutter (.438 - 24th NCAA) with 49 hits (1st A-10, 26th NCAA), 22 stolen bases (2nd A-10, 21st NCAA) and 23 runs scored (5th A-10) while sophomore Maddie Kapsimalis (.429 - 2nd A-10) has batted 10 doubles (4th A-10) and graduate student Alyssa Cacini (.317) has collected 24 RBI (5th A-10). Freshman Izzy Kemp (8-5), three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, leads the team's pitching corps with a 1.24 ERA (19th NCAA), 125 strikeouts (2nd A-10), six complete games and four saves (12th NCAA) over 90.2 innings pitched.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
St. Bonaventure (8-20, 3-9 A-10) is in the middle of the 10-game homestand and will square off against non-conference foe Canisius Tuesday for two games at Joyce Field ahead of Wednesday's games against Dayton. SBU's offense is led by Brooke Bobbey (.289) with 22 hits, 16 walks, 12 runs scored and six stolen bases while Kennedy Haberl (.297) has collected a team-best 10 RBI and knocked out three home runs on the year. In the circle, Emily Phelan (7-13) carries the team's low ERA of 4.55 with 87 strikeouts (7th A-10) and 11 complete games over 109.1 innings of work for the Bonnies.

In 2022's Atlantic 10 series between Dayton and St. Bonaventure, the Flyers took two of three games from the Bonnies at UD Softball Stadium, including two five-inning wins on March 20.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) for games through April 10, Dayton came in at 134 according to NCAA.com. St. Bonaventure was ranked 263.

After 34 games in 2023, the Flyers are 61-and-71 in stolen bases led by sophomore Emma Schutter (22 - 2nd A-10, 21st NCAA) senior Emily Daniel (20 - 3rd A-10). The 61 team stolen bases on the season ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 37th in all of NCAA DI.

#WINNING
Dayton head coach Cara Clark-LaPlaca tallied her 233rd career win at UD on April 15, 2017 at La Salle, surpassing former Flyer head coach Jodi Eickemeyer as Dayton's all-time winningest coach. She now has 366 wins at UD.
Notable - coach Clark-LaPlaca currently has 497 overall career wins as a head coach.

THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Over 90.2 innings pitched in 23 appearances for the Flyers, freshman right-handed pitcher Izzy Kemp currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with 125 total strikeouts and third in the league with 28 batters struck out looking. Her average of 9.7 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 27th nationally.

BRING ME HOME
Graduate student Alyssa Cacini leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with 24 RBI on the season. For her career, she has knocked in a total of 116 runs which currently ranks fourth all-time in program history. Former Flyer Abby Ehrenborg holds the all-time record with 134 career RBI.

CAREER CRIMINALS
Senior Emily Daniel and sophomore Emma Schutter have moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list this season. Schutter is now in fifth place all-time with 45 career stolen bases while Daniel, who spent her freshman season (2020) at Wright State, is in sixth place with 44 career stolen bases for the Flyers. Molly Meyer (2007-10) holds the program record with 66.
