INDIANAPOLIS – A spectacular catch with 11 seconds to go by
Luke Brenner on a 33-yard flea-flicker pass from
Drew VanVleet lifted the University of Dayton football to a 21-14 win at Butler on Saturday.  The game-winning TD capped  a 10-play, 93-yard drive that was Dayton's longest of the year.
Dayton is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pioneer Football League, while Butler falls to 5-2, and 1-2.
GAME RECAP
1st Quarter – Dayton 0, Butler 0
•   Butler took the opening kickoff and moved to midfield, but
Jeremy Jonozzo intercepted a deep ball to give the Flyers the ball at its own 5.
•   UD out-gained Butler 78 to 39 with 71 yards coning on the ground.
•  Â
Mason Hackett had 10 carries for 53 yards and Dillon Fitzpatrick had two carries for 35 yards. Â
2nd Quarter – Dayton 7, Butler 3
•   The two offenses hovered near midfield for most of the quarter, but Dayton took advantage of a muffed punt and
Eli Kirk recovered it at the Bulldog 10-yard line.
•   Three plays later,
Drew VanVleet hit
Jake Coleman for an eight-yard TD with 5:01 left to play in the half.
•   Butler took the ensuing kickoff and drove 60 yards to set up a 32-yard Ryan Short field goal on the last play of the half.
•   At intermission,
Mason Hackett had 66 yards on 17 carries.
•   VanVleet was five-for-five for 47 yards and the score.
3rd Quarter – Dayton 14, Butler 6
•   The two teams exchanged punts to start the half, and then Dayton mounted a 10-play, 57-yard scoring drive.
•   UD converted two fourth downs in the possession, including a 22-yard VanVleet-to-
Luke Brenner touchdown on fourth-and-seven.
•   Butler responded with a 56-yard drive that ended with a 37-yard Short field goal.
4th Quarter – Dayton 21, Butler 14
•   The Flyers had the ball for seven plays to start the quarter, and punted back to the Bulldogs inside the 20.
•   But Butler didn't care, driving 81 yards in 12 snaps.  Butler's two quarterbacks ran the ball nine times, with Reagan Andrew scoring an eight-yard TD, and Nick Howard scoring the game-tying two-point conversion.
•   The Flyers got the ball back with 5:32 to go, but a penalty on the kickoff return put the ball on the UD seven-yard line.
•   This time it was Dayton's turn not to care, as the Flyers manufactured a 10-play, 93-yard game-winning drive.
•   VanVleet ran for 17 yards on third-and-eight,
Gavin Lochow ran for 37 yards on second-and-16, and Hackett converted on fourth-and-one on the Butler 34.
•   That play set up the game-winner on the very next snap.  Hackett took the hand-off, lateraled it back to VanVleet, who threw to Brenner in the end zone.  Butler corner Onye Onuoha made a great recovery and arrived the same time as the ball, but Brenner fought through the contact to come-back-for and hold-on-to the football for the game-winning score.
•   Butler's last snap came from its own 46, and when Flyer captain
Ca'ron Coleman picked off the second lateral, UD had the win as the clock was at zeroes.
