#UDVB Opens the 2024 Atlantic 10 Tournament Saturday in Frericks

The Flyers Take On No. 4 Seed Davidson At 1 P.M.

DAYTON – The No. 18-ranked Dayton volleyball team is set to take on Davidson in the semifinal of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday, Nov. 23 inside the friendly confines of the Frericks Center at 1 p.m.

The Wildcats earned the spot against the Flyers in the semifinal after winning the opening round match over George Washington, 3-1. The match and the entirity of the A-10 Championship will be broadcast on ESPN+.
 
Almodovar Reigns
Dayton redshirt senior Lexie Almodovar was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year by the league on Friday.
 
The Noblesville, Ind. native is the sixth Flyer to win multiple A-10 Player of the Year awards, joining three-time winner Jamie Peterson, and two-time winners Alaina Turner, Rachel Krabacher, Lindsay Fletemier, and UD Hall of Famer Faye Barhorst in the exclusive club.
 
He's Grrrr-eight
Dayton head coach Tim Horsmon was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career on Friday. Now in his 16th season as UD's coach (2003-08; 2014-Present), Horsmon topped 400 wins as the Flyers' head coach with a sweep of Davidson earlier in the season.
 
Horsmon, who is already the all-time winningest Dayton coach, has a 403-108 record while at the helm of the Flyers for an all-time winning percentage of .789. For his total 25-year career, Horsmon has a 579-272 record. Horsmon is one of 14 coaches in Division I to have over 500 career wins with 400 of those at their current institution.
 
Four Flyers Honored by the A-10
Joining Almodovar and Horsmon in postseason Atlantic 10 honors were redshirt senior Alayna Yates, senior Alyssa Miller and junior Liana Sarkissian. Yates and Miller joined Almodovar on the Atlantic 10's First Team, while Sarkissian earned a Second Team nod. Yates was also named Academic All-Atlantic 10.
 
Flyers on top!
With a record of 28-1 on the season, the Dayton Flyers are leading Division I volleyball in winning percentage with a .966 mark. UD ranks just ahead of No. 2 Nebraska (27-1; .964), RV South Dakota State (26-1; .963), and No. 1 Pittsburgh (25-1; .962).
 
Streaking!
Dayton has won 38 consecutive regular-season Atlantic 10 matches dating back to the 2022 campaign boasting 16 sweeps and two four-set victories.
 
How Sweep it is!
Dayton turned in another pair of sweeps last weekend against Saint Louis, bringing their season total to 22. 22 sweeps is tied with Pitt for most in Division I volleyball this season.
 
Rare Air
Redshirt senior Lexie Almodovar has put herself in rarified air in her final season as a Flyer.
 
The Noblesville, Ind. native became the all-time #UDVB kills leader, passing Dayton Hall of Famer and All-American Faye Barhorst (1,796; 2003-06) with her 18-kill performance at Fordham. She's now chasing down 2,000 kills, needing 72 to reach the milestone.
 
RPI Rankings  
Dayton sits at No. 14 in the NCAA's most recent RPI Ranking.
 
The Flyers' non-conference slate included Top 50 matches against Marquette (24), Illinois (29), UNI (39), and Wright State (44), as well as Top 80 opponents Western Kentucky (53),  USF (54), FGCU (56), and Bowling Green (70). While Loyola Chicago (84), VCU (85), George Washington (160) and Davidson (168) round out the rankings in the A-10.
 
UD in the AVCA Polls - Up to No. 18
The Flyers have been ranked in every American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll of the 2024 season, once again coming in at No. 19 in the most recent rankings. Dayton was No. 18 in the latest poll after spending time at No. 19, 20, 21, 22 and No. 24 in the other weeks.
 
UD has been ranked in the AVCA Weekly Poll for 25 consecutive weeks dating back to the 2023 campaign. This tops the program record set in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 seasons when the Flyers went 21 straight weeks in the Top 25.
 
Nobody Better!
Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 in four categories this season, including points/set (18.52), hitting percentage (.302), opponent hitting percentage (.131), kills/set (14.15), assists/set (13.12), and aces/set (1.91).
 
Redshirt senior Lexie Almodovar is the league's top offensive player in terms of points/set (5.67) and kills/set (4.98), while senior Alyssa Miller leads the league in assists/set (10.91). Redshirt senior middle Alayna Yates (.381) and junior middle blocker Liana Sarkissian (.364) are also No. 1 and 2 in hitting percentage.
 
Scouting Davidson
Davidson has an overall record of 16-14 after an 11-7 mark in the Atlantic 10 this season. The Wildcats earned the No. 4 seed and defeated No. 5 George Washington 3-1 in the opening round of the A-10 Championship.
 
Isabel Decker is the top offensive weapon in the lineup for the Wildcats, averaging 3.60 kills/set. FOLLOW #UDVB
