George Washington Set To Visit UD Softball Stadium March 23-24

Saturday Doubleheader Scheduled for 12 p.m. Followed by a Single Game Sunday

DAYTON - University of Dayton softball is set to open the home portion of its 2024 schedule this weekend with a three-game Atlantic 10 series against George Washington. The Flyers and Revolutionaries will get underway Saturday at 12 p.m. for two games followed by a single game Sunday, also at 12 p.m. All three games will be available to follow via live stats at Statbroadcast.com.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (12-9, 2-1 A-10) opened Atlantic 10 play with a 2-1 series win at George Mason over the weekend and sophomore right-handed pitcher Izzy Kemp was honored as A-10 Pitcher of the Week for her work in Fairfax. UD's doubleheader at Purdue Fort Wayne, scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed due to cold temperatures. The Flyers' offense is paced by freshman Kirnan Bailey (.339) and Maddie Kapsimalis (.328) with 20 hits apiece along with graduate student Emily Daniel (.311) with 15 runs scored and 15 stolen bases (28th NCAA). Kemp (7-4) boasts the team's low ERA of 1.69 (1st A-10), has worked seven complete games and collected 76 strikeouts (1st A-10) over 70.1 innings over work.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
George Washington (15-12, 2-1 A-10) closed out a seven-game homestand Wednesday with a 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Hofstra and the Revolutionaries opened conference play with a 2-1 series win over Loyola Chicago last weekend. Alena Ramirez (.409 - 4th A-10) carries the team's best average while Allison Heffley has tallied 29 hits (t-2nd  A-10). Cece Smith (12-3) leads the Revolutionaries' pitching corps with a 2.10 ERA (2nd A-10) and 74 strikeouts (2nd A-10).

SERIES STUFF
Dayton leads, 27-24
The Flyers hold a slim three-game lead over the Revolutionaries in a series that dates back to 2003. Dayton swept the A-10 series last season at George Washington, breaking up a three-game GW winning streak.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on March 21, Dayton came in at 150 according to NCAA.com. George Washington was ranked 173.

CAREER CRIMINALS
With two stolen bases in Dayton's first game against George Mason on March 16, graduate student Emily Daniel became the program's career stolen base leader. Daniel, who spent her freshman season (2020) at Wright State, now has 67 career stolen bases as a Flyer, surpassing Molly Meyer (66) who had held the record since 2010. Junior Emma Schutter moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list last season and is only two behind Daniel in third place with 65 career stolen bases.

THREE STRIKES YOU'RE OUT
Over 224.2 career innings pitched, sophomore Izzy Kemp holds the program record for most strikeouts per seven-inning game at 8.54. Her 1.69 ERA, .182 opposing batting average and 76 strikeouts currently rank first in the Atlantic 10. The 2023 A-10 Rookie of the Year tallied 198 strikeouts and posted 9.0 strikeouts per seven innings last season, which ranked 24th in all of Division I.
