DAYTON - Originally scheduled for March 8-9, the University of Dayton softball team will take part in the 2024 Indiana Invite March 9-11 due to ongoing weather conditions in Bloomington. Dayton is scheduled to play a total of five games against host Indiana, IUPUI and Oakland beginning Saturday evening at IU's Andy Mohr Field. Admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (7-6) is coming off a tough outing this past weekend at Hilltopper Spring Fling as the Flyers dropped four games in the weather-altered schedule at Western Kentucky. Graduate student Emily Daniel leads UD's offense with a .333 average, 12 hits, eight runs and eight stolen bases (2nd A-10) while junior Maddie Kapsimalis has a team-best 10 RBI (7th A-10) on the strength of six extra-base hits. Sophomore Izzy Kemp (4-3) boasts a 0.94 ERA (1st A-10) and has tallied 47 strikeouts (2nd A-10) on the season.

SCOUTING INDIANA
Indiana (15-4) spent last weekend at home hosting the Hoosier Classic, picking up four wins. Over the course of the weekend, Indiana hit a combined nine home runs and defeated Bowling Green and Valparaiso two times apiece by a combined score of 35-9. The Hoosiers have seven everyday players hitting above .300 led by Aly VanBrandt (.421) and Cora Bassett (.393). IU's pitching corps combines for a 1.74 team ERA, paced by Sophie Kleiman (4-0) with a 0.85 ERA.

SCOUTING IUPUI
IUPUI (4-16) held on for the 8-7 win at Butler Wednesday evening, bouncing back from a 1-4 outing at the Austin Peay Invitational March 1-3. The Jaguars' offense is paced by Kendal Calvert (.364) with 24 hits, 12 runs scored and six stolen bases while Paige McPhearson (.368) has tallied 21 hits. Alexa Holman (2-7) has worked 58.2 innings over 12 appearances for IUPUI, collecting a team-best 24 strikeouts.

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland (6-4) was in Conway, S.C., last weekend for the Chanticleer Showdown hosted by Coastal Carolina and posted a 2-2 mark after two games were canceled. After 10 games, Jen Krizka (.533) carries the team's beat average on the strength of 16 hits and has recorded 11 RBI. Sydney Campbell (2-3) has tallied a team-high 19 pitching strikeouts while Alyssa Balcom (1-1) holds the team's low ERA of 2.00.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on March 5, Dayton came in at 154 according to NCAA.com. This weekend's opponents: Howard - 200, Indiana - 54, IUPUI - 267, Oakland - 121.

SERIES STUFF
Indiana - Indiana leads, 2-0
The Hoosiers have won both of the previous meetings between the two squads, both at neutral locations in the early 90s. On March 2, 1991, Indiana bested Dayton, 11-2, followed by a 12-5 win over the Flyers on March 7, 1992.

IUPUI - Dayton leads, 17-14
In a series that dates back to 1990, Dayton has won five straight against IUPUI. Last season, UD picked up 11-6 and 8-3 wins at IUPUI in a doubleheader on April 19.

Oakland - Dayton leads, 3-2-1
The Golden Grizzlies and Flyers last squared off on Feb. 28, 2020 at the UNCG Spartan Classic. Dayton shutout Oakland, 5-0.
