Men's Basketball Falters At St. Bonaventure, 75-53

Nate Santos Led The Flyers With 12 Points And 7 Rebounds

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The University of Dayton men's basketball team fell flat at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday night, falling 75-53 to the Bonnies in Atlantic 10 action at the Reilly Center.

The Flyers could not overcome a scorching shooting performance from the Bonnies, who shot 50.9% from the floor and 48% from beyond the three-point line. UD shot 40.4% from the floor and 33.3% from downtown. 

Senior Nate Santos was Dayton's high scorer, leading the team with 12 points. Fellow senior Enoch Cheeks also finished the game in double-digits with 10. Junior Isaac Jack had nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

GAME RECAP
First Half – St. Bonaventure 39, Dayton 32
  • Freshman Amaël L'Etang scored the Flyers' first five points in a back-and-forth battle.
  • Senior Enoch Cheeks knocks down a pull-up three to give UD its first lead at 8-7.
  • Senior Nate Santos converted a layup to even the score at 10-10 at the 14:47 mark.
  • Santos tied the score at 13-13 just over a minute later with another layup.
  • SBU went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes, finally snapping thanks to a layup by L'Etang to make the score 24-15.
  • The Flyers and Bonnies traded baskets over the final eight minutes of action, with back to back layups from Isaac Jack and Malachi Smith in the final minute of action bringing UD within seven at 39-32.
 
 Second Half – St. Bonaventure 75, Dayton 53
  • Bennett drilled a three to kick off the half for the Flyers, bringing them back within four points.
  • The Bonnies put together a 16-2 run to grab firm control of the contest.
  • Redshirt freshman Jaiun Simon hit a three, but SBU put together an 8-0 run immediately after to put the game out of reach.
