DAYTON – The third weekend of conference play for the Flyers features a pair of home matches against Saint Louis.
Friday night's match against the Billikens will begin at 7 p.m. and be the team's Mental Health Awareness night. The match will also recognize graduate and international students. Saturday afternoon's match will be Little Flyers/Youth Day with a 2 p.m. first serve and free Kona Ice for the first 60 kids in attendance.
FORDHAM RESULTS
Dayton defeated Fordham in both matches of their first home weekend of Atlantic 10 competition. The Flyers won in four sets in the first match before sweeping the Rams in the second.
Kamryn Hunt led UD with 28 kills with Corrie Anderson right behind her with 27 kills against the Rams. Anderson also posted a career-high 20 kills in Friday's win Hunt also recorded a team-most 22 digs across the two matches, followed by Viktoria Wahlgren and Emily Young with 21. Wahlgren averaged 9.57 assists per set, totaling 67 assists on the weekend.
WEEKLY AWARD ROUND-UP
After helping UD go 3-0 against Duquesne and Fordham, junior outside hitter Kamryn Hunt was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week.
In 10 sets played, Hunt tallied 46 kills on 102 attempts, averaging 4.60 kills per set. She earned a service ace in both Tuesday's and Saturday's three-set wins. The Sylvania, Ohio native also tabbed three total blocks and 30 digs.
TOP HITS
Liana Sarkissian has had a strong senior campaign with 132 kills and 53 total blocks so far this season.
Overall, she leads the conference with a .389 attack percentage.
DIGGING IT
Karissa Kaminski is closing in on 1,500 career digs, just five away with 1,495. This milestone will solidify her spot in fifth in career digs and put her on pace to move into fourth, which is currently 1,675 digs, held by Paige Vargas (2009-12).
Kaminski leads the A-10 in digs per set at 4.25. The senior is also third in digs with 242 this season.
THAT'S THE POINT
Reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Kamryn Hunt has had a stellar first season with the Flyers.
In conference play, the junior leads the A-10 in points per set with 4.53. She also leads the conference with 4.22 kills per set. Overall, she leads the Flyers with 200 kills, 3.51 kills per set and 216.5 points. She is also just one of two players to appear in every set this season.
Week One RPI
The NCAA released the first RPI rankings of the season on Oct. 6, ranking Dayton No. 76.
The Flyers have the best RPI in the A-10, followed by George Mason at No. 83. The next Atlantic 10 opponent is VCU at No. 131.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Saint Louis is at an even 8-8 overall and is 0-5 in the A-10, dropping a five-set match to Loyola Chicago on Tuesday. They have also fallen to George Mason and VCU this season.
Ellie Rink, a three-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, leads the team with 231 kills. Freshman Jetta Brenning has 542 assists and 22 service aces, leading the Billikens in both. She also recorded the first triple-double for a Saint Louis freshman since 2006 and the first overall since 2012 in Tuesday's loss to the Ramblers.
LAST MEETING
Dayton swept Saint Louis on the road in both meetings last year, earning a perfect conference record for the seventh time in program history.
Lexie Almodovar led UD with 14 kills, with Brooke Smith hitting a .833 and tallying 10 kills and four blocks. At libero, Karissa Kaminski recorded 17 digs. The Flyers also out-blocked the Billikens 10-1 in the straight-set win.
