Softball Scheduled To Play Five In Weekend's I-75 Challenge

Dayton to Face Off Against Georgia State, Memphis and Georgia Tech

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is taking a road trip down Interstate 75 to take part in the I-75 Challenge co-hosted by Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Kennesaw State in the Atlanta area. Dayton will play a total of five games Feb. 21-23 and three different sites.

Live stats will be available for all five games while the Sunday doubleheader at Georgia Tech will be video streamed via ACCNX. CLICK HERE for more schedule information.

I-75 CHALLENGE SCHEDULE
• Feb. 21 at Georgia State (DH) | 12 p.m.
• Feb. 22 vs. Memphis (at Kennesaw State ) | 6 p.m.
• Feb. 23 at Georgia Tech | 11 a.m.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (4-1) is coming off a successful opening weekend at Wofford's Terrier Invite Feb. 7-9. UD picked up wins over Youngstown State (x2), Wofford and Towson before dropping a 4-2 decision to the host Terriers in the championship game. Heading into the I-75 Challenge, the Flyers have six players hitting above .300, led by sophomore Deirdre Flaherty (.421) who also leads the team with eight hits. Junior Izzy Kemp (1-0) paces the Dayton pitching corps with a 1.28 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 16.1 innings of work.

CAREER CRIMINAL
Senior outfielder Emma Schutter moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list during the 2023 season and is just five behind program record holder Emily Daniel (85) in second place with 80 career stolen bases. So far this season, she is 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.

Senior Emma Schutter has made 160 consecutive appearances in the Flyers' starting lineup, every game she has played during her career at Dayton. She was one of three Flyers who started all 54 games last season (Kirnan Bailey, Maddie Kapsimalis).

THREE STRIKES, YOU'RE OUT
Over 284.0 career innings pitched, junior Izzy Kemp holds the program record for most strikeouts per seven-inning game at 8.68. She finished the 2024 season ranked 13th with 4.32 hits allowed/seven innings, 24th with 8.3 strikeouts/seven innings and 39th with a 4.19 strikeout-to-walk ratio in NCAA DI.
