Softball Set For Opening Day At Wofford Terrier Invite

Dayton to Play a Total of Five Games Against Towson, Youngstown State and Host Wofford

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is heading to South Carolina to open the 2025 season at the Wofford Terrier Invite Feb. 7-9. Dayton will play a total of five games against Towson, Youngstown State and host Wofford beginning with a 10 a.m. matchup against the Penguins Friday at 10 a.m.

All five games will be available to follow via live stats HERE. Friday's 3 p.m. game against Wofford will be streamed via ESPN+.

ABOUT DAYTON
The Flyers were chosen to repeat as Atlantic 10 Champions in 2025 as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Dayton, which went 33-21 overall and 19-7 in the conference, won the regular season title and the Flyers' first conference championship title last season. Under 2024 A-10 Coach of the Year Cara Clark, the Flyers return First Team All-Conference players infielder Maddie Kapsimalis, infielder Kirnan Bailey, pitcher Haven Dwyer and 2024 Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-Conference selection outfielder Emma Schutter.

SCOUTING TOWSON
The Tigers finished the 2024 season with a 22-32, 10-17 CAA record and placed ninth in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). Heading into head coach Lisa Costello's 30th season, Towson returns three of its top five batting averages from last season in Juniors Cara Bohner (.305) and Grace Franczyk (.287) as well as senior Elizabeth Yoskowitz (.271). Top returners on the mound include sophomore Amanda Medina who finished with a 3.25 ERA in 66.2 innings as a freshman, and fellow second year player Faith McCullough who had a 3.32 ERA in 23 relief appearances.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
Wofford was selected to finish fifth in the Southern Conference preseason coaches poll. The Terriers open their season at home against Dayton on Friday, February 7 at 3:00 p.m. Pitcher Margaret Axelson and infielder Kate Platte were named to the preseason First-Team All-SoCon Team for Wofford, the program's first-ever preseason awards. The Terriers were 23-24 overall last season and 11-10 in SoCon action.

SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Head coach Brian Campbell is in his 17th season at Youngstown State and his 25th as a college head coach. Campbell owns a career record of 675-588-2 and a 390-399-1 mark at Youngstown State. The Penguins return 15 letterwinners and five starters from last year's squad that tied the school record for wins with an overall record of 36-17. The Penguins also won their second regular-season championship with a Horizon League record of 15-5 in 2024.

CAREER CRIMINAL
Senior outfielder Emma Schutter moved into Dayton's top 10 all-time stolen bases list during the 2023 season and enters 2025 seven behind program record holder Emily Daniel (85) in second place with 78 career stolen bases.

START ME UP
Senior Emma Schutter has made 155 consecutive appearances in the Flyers' starting lineup, every game she has played during her career at Dayton. She was one of three Flyers who started all 54 games last season (Kirnan Bailey, Maddie Kapsimalis).

THREE STRIKES, YOU'RE OUT
Over 267.2 career innings pitched, sophomore Izzy Kemp holds the program record for most strikeouts per seven-inning game at 8.74. She finished the 2024 season ranked 13th with 4.32 hits allowed/seven innings, 24th with 8.3 strikeouts/seven innings and 39th with a 4.19 strikeout-to-walk ratio in NCAA DI.
