Softball Playing At Northern Kentucky, Akron Midweek

Dayton Opening Six-Straight Away Games at NKU Tuesday

DAYTON - The University of Dayton softball team is kicking off six-straight away games Tuesday at Northern Kentucky with a single game at 4:30 p.m. On Wednesday, Dayton will head to Akron for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (22-15) is currently in second place in Atlantic 10 standings after taking a 2-1 series win over Fordham this past weekend. Senior Emma Schutter (.375) leads five Flyers hitting above .300 with 45 hits, 35 runs, 17 walks and 20 stolen bases and while senior Maddie Kapsimalis (.325) has 28 RBI and senior Chloe Wong (.319) has knocked out a team-high five home runs. In the circle, junior Izzy Kemp (10-4) paces the UD pitching corps with a 2.73 ERA and 124 strikeouts over 105.0 innings pitched.

SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
Northern Kentucky (20-21) picked up the Horizon League series win at Detroit Mercy, 2-1, Friday and Saturday, breaking up a three-game losing skid. Olivia Pastin (.336) leads three Norse with 40+ hits with 45, including 14 doubles and five home runs, to go with 34 RBI while Campbell Beatty (.347) has 43 hits, 29 runs and 20 walks. Kyndall Ford (6-6) carries the team's low ERA of 4.20 and Brooklyn Ballis (7-9) has a team-best 57 Ks and worked nine complete games.

SCOUTING AKRON
Akron (23-19) claimed a MAC series sweep over Western Michigan at the Zips Lee R. Jackson Field this past weekend and the team has won four of its last five. Megan Lee (.388) leads the Zips' offense with 54 hits and Brooke Sivek (.331) has scored 31 runs and stolen 14 bases. Macy Walters (11-9) has put in a team-high 108.2 innings of work in the circle, including 12 complete games, while Madie Jamrog (8-4) holds the team's low ERA of 3.00 with 50 strikeouts over 91.0 innings.

SERIES STUFF
Dayton leads Northern Kentucky, 18-12
The Flyers and Norse last squared off on April 16, 2024 in Dayton with UD edging out NKU, 5-4. Dayton has won three straight and 11 of the last 12 meetings between the two squads.

Dayton and Akron are tied, 14-14
Akron and Dayton have already squared off twice this season, at the EKU Colonel Classic Feb. 28 and March 1, with each program claiming a win. In last season's doubleheader at Dayton, Akron secured the sweep with 1-0 and 8-4 wins.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton claimed a 2-1 conference series over visiting Fordham last weekend, taking the first two games. The Flyers and Rams battled inclement weather in the Dayton area but were able to complete the three-game set at UD Softball Stadium.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on April 120, Dayton ranked 150 according to NCAA.com. Northern Kentucky came in at 212 and Akron ranked 119.

• Cara Clark is in her 18th season as head coach of the Flyers in 2025. Her record at Dayton is 435-440-2 (.497) and Clark's career win-loss mark sits at 566-566-2 (.500) over a total of 24 seasons. In Atlantic 10 Conference play, she has tallied a 204-144 career record. Clark has tallied the program's most wins and holds the all-time best winning percentage at Dayton.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title two times (2024, 2015) and the Flyers have captured the A-10 Championship title once (2024). In 2024, the Flyers made their 11-consecutive appearance in the A-10 Tournament. Over 15 appearances, UD has tallied a 19-28 record in the conference postseason championship.
