Top-Seeded Softball Taking On No. 4 George Washington In #A10SB Tourney

UD and GW to Square Off at 11 a.m. May 8

WASHINGTON - For the fourth time this season, the University of Dayton softball team will face off against George Washigton Friday in the top-seeded Flyers' first game of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Championship. UD and GW are set to get underway at 11 a.m. May 8 at GW Softball Field as the Revolutionaries are hosting the conference postseason tournament. Admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (29-16, 17-5 A-10) claimed the program's second-straight and third overall A-10 regular season title on Sunday and enters the tournament enjoying a seven-game winning streak. The Flyers' offense is led by senior outfielder Emma Schutter (.392), one of five hitting above .300, with 58 hits, 50 runs, 29 stolen bases (23rd NCAA) and 21 walks while senior second baseman Maddie Kapsimalis (.345) has 11 doubles, five home runs and 40 RBI. Junior Izzy Kemp (13-4) carries the team's low ERA of 2.30 with 162 strikeouts (27th NCAA) and 12 complete games over 127.2 innings pitched.

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
Fourth-seeded George Washington (33-19, 16-10) defeated No. 5 Saint Joseph's in Wednesday's first game to move on to a match-up against No. 1 Dayton. The Revolutionaries' Ashley Corpuz (.397) and Allison Heffley (.363) combine for 30% of GW's hits, including Corpuz' 16 doubles and 15 home runs. In the circle, Anna Reed (16-6) leads the team with a 2.15 ERA and 118 strikeouts over 130.0 innings of work.

SERIES STUFF
George Washington leads, 29-28
Dayton was in Washington, D.C., earlier this season, dropping three games to George Washington, its singular conference series loss this year. The last time the pair squared off in the A-10 Championship was in an elimination game on day three of the 2022 tournament as top-seeded GW downed UD, 8-0 (6).

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton closed out the 2025 regular season with a weather-shortened home series against George Mason. The Flyers and Patriots were reduced to a doubleheader on Sunday with UD sweeping both game and claiming the regular-season crown. Game one was a 9-1, six-inning affair followed by a come-from-behind victory for the Flyers, 5-3.

RPI RANKINGS
In the NCAA's most recent Rating Percentage Index (RPI) through games on May 6, Dayton ranked 115 according to NCAA.com. George Washington came in at 183.

FLYER FACTS
• Cara Clark is in her 18th season as head coach of the Flyers in 2025. Her record at Dayton is 442-441-2 (.501) and Clark's career win-loss mark sits at 573-567-2 (.503) over a total of 24 seasons. In Atlantic 10 Conference play, she has tallied a 211-144 career record. Clark has tallied the program's most wins and holds the all-time best winning percentage at Dayton.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title three times (2025, 2024, 2015) and the Flyers have captured the A-10 Championship title once (2024). In 2025, the Flyers are making their 12-consecutive appearance in the A-10 Tournament. Over 15 appearances, UD has tallied a 19-28 record in the conference postseason championship.
• The Flyers finished the 2024 season with a 33-21 overall record and a 19-7 conference mark, finishing in first place in regular-season play.
