Before arriving at Dayton, Rispoli helped lead the University of New Haven to multiple NCAA Regional appearances, conference championships, and a program-record 39-win season in 2018. Rispoli has played a key role in player development throughout his coaching career, with three of his former players advancing to Major League Baseball.

As a player, Rispoli competed professionally in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball and played collegiately at Campbell University and Georgia State University, serving as a team captain and earning Preseason All-Conference honors.
