Chris Ochs

Now in his 15th season at the University of Dayton, Chris Ochs was named the offensive coordinator prior to the 2012 season. He has also been UD’s offensive line coach since joining the staff in 2000. Since Ochs assumed that role, UD’s O-Line has opened holes and protected quarterbacks which has allowed Dayton to finish among the PFL leaders in scoring offense, including first in 2002, over the last nine seasons.

In 2008, UD quarterbacks threw 425 passes, while being sacked just 18 times. That’s just one sack for every 24 pass attempts. By contrast,
Dayton opponents were sacked once every 13 times they threw the ball.

Dayton led the PFL in rushing six times between 2000 and 2006, and was ranked in the top five of NCAA I-AA football four times. Even though the Flyer offensive attack has changed to a spread offense, UD led the PFL in rushing again in 2012 (196.9 yards per game). Through all that what remains the same for Ochs and his line are the execution and cohesiveness that every great offense needs.

Ochs came to UD from Defiance College, where he had been an assistant coach since 1996. At Defiance, he served as both offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Prior to that he was an assistant at Southern Illinois University where he coached the offensive line while getting his masters in educational administration and higher education.

He was a three-year letterman at Capital University, where he started at quarterback, and was the team captain his senior year. He holds five career offensive records and graduated in 1993 with a business management degree. He also was a two-year captain of the baseball team.

Chris and his wife Karen (a UD graduate) live in Beavercreek with their twins, Shane and Sarah.
