DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton volleyball team was swept by Butler University, 3-0 (30-17, 30-27, 30-22), Tuesday night at the Frericks Center. Kali Carter led Butler with 19 kills while
Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, OH) paced UD eight kills and four blocks, while
Shanna Pressler (Archbold, OH) had 10 digs.
The Flyers fell behind 9-4 in game one sand struggled to get it going as Butler extended the lead to 24-14 and put the game away 30-17 behind nine kills from Kali Carter. Butler hit .419 in game one.
Butler jumped out to a 7-2 lead in game two, before UD rallied to pull within one at 8-7. The Bulldogs fended off the Flyers until a kill by Pressler tied the game at 14-14. Still tied at 17, Butler rattled off four-straight points before UD rallied tie it back up at 23-23. But Butler scored six of the next nine points before a staving off a late run by the Flyers for the 30-27 win.
The Flyers made some halftime adjustments including switching
Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) from setter to libero, and inserting Andi Moran (St. Louis) at setter. Dayton responded with the first two points of game three but Butler retaliated and established a 14-9 lead. Butler extended the lead to 19-10 before UD whittled it down to three with six-straight points. After a timeout, UD extended the run to 7-0 before BU answered with an 8-0 run of their own and the Bulldogs put it away 30-22.
Schott finished with 11 digs and 14 assists. The Flyers attacking game never got going as UD committed 23 errors offensively.
