SENIORS SHINE AS VOLLEYBALL BEATS TEMPLE, 3-0

-  Dayton moved to within one victory of the 2004 Atlantic 10 Regular Season Volleyball Championship with a convincing 3-0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-18) win over visiting Temple Saturday at the Frericks Center.

UD (20-6, 11-1 A-10 has now won nine straight matches and 14 of its last 15 overall. With the loss, Temple falls to 11-16 overall and 8-3 in A-10 play.

Saturday marked the final home match for Flyer seniors Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) and Shanna Pressler (Archbold, OH) and each would make their mark on Senior Day.

Utnage pounded out 17 kills while hitting .333 to go along with 13 digs, four blocks and two service aces. In the third game, Utnage became just the fifth player in UD history to record both 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. She has tallied 1,001 kills and 1,105 digs in her career.

Pressler added eight digs, seven kills and two blocks for the Flyers who outhit the Owls .331 to .161 and had a 13.0-4.0 advantage in blocks.

Sophomore Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, OH) hit .556 while recording 17 kills and eight blocks. She now has 42 solo blocks to her credit this season, which ranks fourth on the UD single-season list just ahead of the 40 she recorded her freshman season.

Freshman Robynne Green (Palatine, IL) posted a .714 hitting percentage while tallying 10 kills, three blocks and three service aces.

Junior Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) engineered an efficent Flyer offense with 47 assists to go along with nine digs, three blocks and two service aces.

Freshman Courtney Pettke (Milwaukee,WI) came off the bench to post 12 digs for the Flyers.

Dayton returns to action next weekend on the road against George Washington (Fri., 7 p.m.) and Duquesne (Sat., 7 p.m.). A win by the Flyers in either of the two matches would clinch their third A-10 Regular Season Championship.
