The University of Dayton rowing team announced its awards for the spring season today.
Katie Lesko was named Outstanding Varsity Rower, complimenting her Atlantic 10 All-Academic selection earlier this season. The Most Outstanding Rower award is given to the team member who has made the biggest impact to on-the-water boat speed and winter training/weight room intensity.
Anson Brennan and James Larson received honors with the Competitor's Cup Award. The Competitor's Cup is given to both a man and a woman in their last year of rowing at UD to recognize their contribution to the crew team as a rower both on the water and off.
Megan Riley earned the award for Most Improved Rower on the season. Riley and Brennan were members of the Lightweight crew that earned the highest ever national ranking for a Flyer boat by USRowing and recorded victories at the Atlantic 10 Championship, the SIRA Regatta, and the Dad Vail Regatta.
Annie Dunn was honored as Outstanding Novice Rower.
The Flyers concluded their most successful season ever Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta. In the spring UD achieved a No. 10 national ranking and posted victories in races at the SIRA and Dad Vail over tough competition, including No. 8 Ohio State, No. 7 Santa Barbara, and No. 11 Central Florida. In the Atlantic 10 Championship, Dayton finished second only to defending champion Massachusetts in the closest final points differential in the tournament's ten-year history.
UD loses only seven rowers to graduation next season.
