The University of Dayton women's Lightweight 8 crew team was ranked 6th nationally by the latest USRowing coach's poll, released Wednesday. It is the latest in a string of highest-ever rankings for the Flyers, who under the guidance of first-year head coach Mike Farrey set previous school highs at 13th and 10th in the USRowing poll earlier this year.
Dayton completed its season Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta, where the Flyers bested fellow ranked teams Ohio State (No. 7 in the latest poll), Santa Barbara (No. 9), Central Florida (No. 10), and Villanova (No. 13). The win completed a perfect 5-0 season for the Flyers in Lightweight 8 races in 2005. The Lightweights' only loss in a race this year was to Bucknell's Varsity 8 squad during spring training.
Massachusetts earned the No. 15 ranking to place two Atlantic 10 teams in the top 15. Duquesne was not ranked but receiving votes. Wisconsin captured the No. 1 spot, receiving all seven first-place votes.
The Lightweights lose only two rowers to graduation next season, Anson Brennan and Liz Goins, and coxswain Lizzy Tomber.
