Dayton, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team ended its preseason exhibition schedule with a 5-1 win over Northwestern University Sunday at Baujan Field. Flyer freshman Caitlin Proffitt netted three goals on the afternoon, while fellow freshman Colleen Gibson and junior Kristen Persichini added one each in the victory.

Dayton wasted no time getting on the board as Proffitt put in the game's first goal in the sixth minute after goalie Niki Reed sent her on a breakaway with a long punt. Just 30 seconds later, Proffitt scored her second of three goals when she rebounded a head ball that freshman Mandi Bäck put off the crossbar.

The Flyers went up 3-0 in the 14th minute when Colleen Gibson fired a shot from 22 yards out into the back of the net. Proffitt completed her hat-trick with a goal in the 18th minute. Northwestern responded with a goal of their own by Krystal Patterson in the 20th minute. The Flyers answered back as junior Kristen Persichini rounded out the scoring for UD with a tap-in from five yards out.

The Flyers out-shot the Wildcats 19-14 for the game, with 12 of those being on frame.

The game was the Flyers' final tune-up for 2006. They open the regular season Friday August, 25 at 5:00 PM at the University of Toledo.
