The University of Dayton volleyball team opened play Saturday in the Dayton Flyer Classic the same way the Flyers ended Friday's action - with a three-game sweep. UD defeated Southern Illinois 30-20, 30-22, 30-27 in the first of four matches to be played today. Dayton senior Faye Barhorst had ten kills for UD, while sophomore Nicole Bateman added eight kills and 17 digs. IUPUI defeated Youngstown State in four games in Saturday's second match. Play will resume at 5:00 p.m. with YSU taking on Southern Illinois, followed by Dayton against IUPUI at 7:30 p.m. Both matches can be followed on-line at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
Barhorst led a balance attack that featured six players with at least five kills. Chauntay Mickens had seven, Robynne Green and Jamie-Lee Richards added six and Erin Schroeder had five. Schroeder also had 36 of the Flyers' 41 assists.
Adrienne Green led UD with 20 digs.
Dayton has won 11 of its last 12 home matches in the Frericks Center.
