A season-best 22 kills from Faye Barhorst led Dayton past Connecticut, 3-1 (30-26, 27-30, 30-21, 30-25) in the first of two matches for the Flyers on Saturday at the Diet Coke Classic. UD (9-4) will returns to the court on Saturday night against host Minnesota (8:30 p.m. ET).
Barhorst recorded 22 kills on 40 attempts with no errors for a .550 hitting percentage. She added eight blocks as the Flyers led in the front row with 13.0 blocks to the Huskies' 8.0.
Junior Jamie-Lee Richards and sophomore Nicole Bateman also had big offensive matches. Richards finished with 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Bateman tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Dayton was solid defensively as it held UConn to a .191 hitting percentage. Junior libero Adrienne Green posted 24 digs while redshirt sophomore Lauren Markowski had 10 digs from the back row.
Erin Schroeder dished out 54 assists for the Flyers which improved to 8-1 on the season against unranked teams.
