FORMER FLYERS TOP UD IN ALUMNI NAILBITER, 3-2

Oct. 7, 2007

2007 UD graduate and four-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference player Tom Murphy was one of nine former players who returned to defeat the current Dayton squad in the annual alumni match, 3-2, on Saturday.

Murphy paired with former teammate Rob Altenau to defeat senior James O'Connell and junior Brad Roby, 8-2. Michael Schiffler also tallied a point for the alumni in a singles win over senior Josh Vance, 8-4.

The Flyers got on the board with doubles victories from junior Antonio Rodriguez and sophomore Wes Hartig, and the freshman tandem of Bryce Warnock and Michael Koscielski.

The match came down to a 9-7 decision in a doubles match that went to Steve Southerland and Dan Altenau (alumni). They faced a 7-3 deficit, but stormed back to steal the next six games against Matthew Sherman and Chris Riccardella.

Saturday's action also included a super tie-breaker doubles tournament, which was captured this year by Michael Schiffler (alumni) and Matthew Sherman (Dayton).
The Flyers are back in action on Friday, October 12 at the Louisville Invitational in Louisville, KY.
